Putting the Alias in with the internet address
The "Personal name" field located in Tools > Options > General settings > Basic settings is what controls whether your name is included in the From: header. No entry here, no name part in sent messages. This field is identity specific.
Right, I understand.

In this case, Pegasus combines the Personal Name and the Internet address to the header of all outgoing mail. In my opinion, that seems like exactly the right thing to do.

In the case of addressees on outgoing mail, it seems like the same approach would be appropriate. But then again, I just realized that some people might use Aliases in their address books that they might not want the addressees to ever see.

So I guess I'm back to editing all my address book entries to make them look like: John Smith <John.Smith@smtp.att.net>. This makes my only suggestion be that this be added to the help file.

thanks,

I can't find the place in Pegasus that lets me require my outgoing addresses, pulled from my address books, to include BOTH the Alias AND the internet address.

I can get Pegasus to include only the Alias (and presumably resolve it later) or just the internet address, but not both. This is a fresh install and everything else appears to have gone well.

I'd like my addresses to come out looking like:

John Smith <John.Smith@smtp.att.net>

not just: John Smith or John.Smith@smtp.att.net.

This turns out to be fairly important since so many people have email addresses that don't give me a clue as to who they are for.

I'm sure I had Pegasus set up this way before, but I can't find that setting now. I'm sure this has been asked and answered, so my apologies for bringing it up again. I've tried this directly from an address book and also from the handy icon at the end of the address entry line on a reply. Both work the same.

thanks,

The e-mail address field in your addressbook should contain:

John Smith <John.Smith@smtp.att.net>

The e-mail address field in your addressbook should contain:

John Smith <John.Smith@smtp.att.net>

Hmmmm, so this never worked like I thought it did. Interesting.

Okay, I can do this, but it sounds like something that should be mentioned in the manual/help, but now I see that in the help it specifically says not to put the alias in the email address, but I assume it means not to put ONLY the alias in there.

And now, with this fresh info, thanks Brian, I realize that for ALL these years, I've been guilty of doing exactly what one of my pet peeves is: sending out email without my name on it. So now I've changed my email address in my identities setup to also be in the form of John Smith <John.Smith@smtp.att.net. Discovering and fixing that problem makes this thread doubly rewarding. It's embarrasing that I've been doing this wrong for all these years. The Help should have made this clear.

thanks!

By now I've discovered that Pegasus has been sending my email out under my combined name and email address all along. So no need to change my Identities setup.

But it will be a bit of work to change all my address book entries. Too bad this isn't as automatic as my personal info turned out to be.

thanks,
