My wife somehow got to the point where only New Message window showed. I was able to restore the Folders window by doing Window>Tile, but despite Preview mode being checked, clicking on a message in New Mail window does not cause a preview to show.

What do you suggest?

Preview mode is a three pane window.  Is that what you have and the bottom right pane isn't showing a preview?

The mode status can be deceiving because when in List mode the toolbar button reads "Preview" and when in Preview mode that button reads "List".

Preview mode can be toggled on/off from the Folders pane. Hit Ctrl+L to open Folders pane and look for its right-most toolbar icon: Preview. Click it and you toggle preview mode ON. Adjust its size and position within Pegasus Mail main window and close it to save settings. Remember that it is highly advisable to not have Pegasus Mail main window maximized so settings are correctly saved. Hit Ctrl+L again to restore preview mode pane. If you want to return to Pegasus Mail classic view (my choice), hit its fifth (left to right) toolbar icon.

You are in List mode.  Click the "Preview" button in the toolbar of the Folder window to switch to Preview mode.  This will change the Folder window to a 3-pane window.

That's not the  the Preview pane but the Classic view (Folders + NewMail folder). To activate the Preview mode one must click the Preview button on Folders pane toolbar.

Also noted that your Pegasus Mail main window is maximized. The better practice is to not use it that way. Click the Maximize button to toggle it to the not-maximized state, then stretch it to your screen limits so it will look just as being maximized. Next step, close (shut down) Pegasus Mail to save windows positions and sizes. That shall do.

Brian:

I clicked the Preview button in the Folder window. This did not cause Preview window to show.

Euler:

I discovered that Folder >Preview was already checked. I tried unchecking it then re-checking it. The Preview window did not show.

  • I clicked on the Maximize button. Pegasus no longer occupied the whole screen.
  • I stretched the Pegasus window to close to the edges of the screen,
  • I closed Pegasus
  • I ran Pegasus again. The Pegasus window appeared as had left it. There is still no Preview. Folders > Preview shows as checked.
Further suggestions?

I really appreciate your help.

Folders > Preview mode is misleading.  It just enables the display of message content in the preview pane.

To get into Preview Mode, click the "Preview" button in the Folder window toolbar, it will change to "List".  If still no three pane display, perhaps that window is narrowed to the point where it is only displaying the folder list.  Grab the right side of it and stretch to see if it exposes the message list and preview panes.

I guess it's rather the hoizontal "details ribbon" (as David Harris named it) somewhere below the message list of the folder that's drawn down to the bottom and must be drawn upwards (folder list on the left clipped, folder empty for privacy):

Current screenshot

I see that the number of messages in each of the folders is now missing.

Close the new mail folder window.

Now grab the right edge of the Folder window and expand it to the right.  You will see the message count column come into view followed by two additional panes, the upper one showing the message list for the active folder, the lower one showing the message preview (Folder > Preview mode must be enabled for the preview pane to actually show a preview).
