gamil not working aka Gmail

Hi,

Think it was richu who solved this, thanks, but for me the problem still exists. Followed the instructions which seemed to work well. Still stuck at user/pass word not accepted. I just cant see what is missing.
It is Firefox latest version and win 10. Mail via the win10 and normal browser login is ok.
Suggestions welcome, after using Peggy sine uni am reluctant to give in to MS/Goog juggernaut
Many thanks, Doug

Thanks for reply, not sure how to reply to a response here. Ignore firefox. Yes done all the steps and all seemed fine. Entered pass and user again, still same. Odd one.

You can assume that either the username or the password is incorrect.

I don't understand your reference to Firefox. If the incorrect username/password issue is in Pegasus Mail, did you obtain a 16 character app password from Google and enter in place of your previous password in your POP3 and SMTP host files (or IMAP profile)?

The username and password transmitted by Pegasus Mail are logged in internet session logs. Looking at a log is a way of confirming that what Pegasus Mail is transmitting is correct.
Turn on internet session logging in Tools > Internet options (bottom of General tab).
Make one attempt at retrieving mail from your mail account.
Turn off internet session logging.

A log will have been created in a \TCPLogs subdirectory of the new mailbox directory. It will have a filename extension of .pop. It is a plain text file so open it with text editor like notepad and look for the username and password entries. Make certain that the password matches the Google app password.

BTW, I just heard from another user who replaced his Google account password with the Pegasus Mail app password. This was a mistake because they need to be different. If you also did this then try changing your Google account password to see if that solves the problem. I haven't heard back from the other person about whether this works or whether a new app password is required.

Remove the spaces. It should be 16 contiguous characters.

Just check mine connection using the log. Note the user id is just the userid without the gmail.com. So might want to check you setup.
I use stunnel for the connection so have a local port that maps thru stunnel to the gmail IP. Thus using the 64 bit linux stunnel with new openssl. But other stuff is same.
Sometimes username is just that, and sometimes it is username with @and domain.

Both of my gmail accounts POP and SMTP hosts are configured with username and domain as User name (eg: username@gmail.com).

As a follow up to my previous suggestion regarding changing a Google account password if you set it to the same as you app password, I just found a Google support article that states that app passwords will be reset whenever the Google account password is changed.

The specific verbiage is: "To help protect your account, we revoke your App Passwords when you change your Google Account password. To continue to use an app with your Google Account, create a new App Password."

Peer's certificate name is '/OU=No SNI provided; please fix your client./CN=invalid2.invalid'.

Could it be a certificate issue? Just found a few bug report in internet where people reporting this error when using linux and google mail.

Pegasus v4.81 Beta

Hi,
Thanks again for feedback and information. Generated a new app password as I did change the Google password as Brian suggested. Turned on 2FA to do this. It worked! managed to get the emails down loaded, you can guess a but is coming... Turned off 2FA and then unable to connect. It seems an app pass is dependent on 2 FA? Bit of a pain having a mobile to use to read mail on a pc.
There is another user account on this PC/Pegasus but only one account user/pass is tied to to the app pass.
The support and help on this forum is just great thanks so much. I dont want to impose too much on your time. Hate saying this but any other email readers out there (arrggghhh)! It seems Google and co just want to stifle any one else.
Thanks and have a cool VB
Doug
