Getting error 535 5.7.0 authentication failed trying to send messages

In the last week or so, I can no longer send emails with Pegasus Mail. Receiving emails still works. Here's the error:

14:38:08.653: >> 250-AUTH CRAM-MD5 LOGIN PLAIN
14:38:08.653: >> 250-STARTTLS
14:38:08.653: >> 250-DELIVERBY
14:38:08.653: >> 250 HELP
14:38:08.659: << AUTH LOGIN
14:38:08.690: >> 334 ...
14:38:08.690: << ...gobbledygook...
14:38:08.737: >> 334 ...
14:38:08.737: << ...gobbledygook...
14:38:08.775: >> 535 5.7.0 authentication failed

I phoned the email provider, but they were no help. I can send via their web app. I updated from v4.7 to v4.81, but that didn't help.

It sure looks like like and incorrect username or password issue. I wonder if the provider has made the switch to requiring an app password. I suggest looking into that and getting the current SMTP connection requirements from the provider and then creating a new SMTP host based on those. Posting the name of the provider might generate a response from someone using it.

The provider is sasktel.net. When I called them, they didn't say anything about requiring an app password. The smtp requirements they told me on the phone seem pretty standard.

Below is what I found for the SMTP configuration settings:
https://support.sasktel.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/15455

Server host name: smtp.sasktel.net
Port: 587

In the Security tab:
Tick the "Via direct SSL connect" option
Tick the "Login to SMTP server using the following details" option
Email address: yourusername@sasktel.net
Password: your email password

I suggest creating a new host file using these settings so as to rule out any corruption in the existing host file.
