A hang during the process of opening the new mail folder can be caused by a malformed message file. To identify whether this is the problem you will need to move all new message files out of the new mailbox directory. Here are the steps:
- If you don't know where your new mailbox directory is, in Pegasus Mail click Help > About Pegasus Mail then click the Info button. The resulting display will contain an entry that shows the path to the new mailbox directory. Make note of the path.
- Close Pegasus Mail.
- Use a file explorer to navigate to the new mailbox directory.
- Sort the files by date.
- Identify all .CNM files that are dated after that last time the New Mail folder successfully.
- Move those files to a temporary holding directory.
- Open Pegasus Mail and the New Mail folder.
If it opens successfully then you know that one of the files you moved is causing the problem. If so, you have two choices. You can close Pegasus Mail, move one ore several back to the new mail directory, then open Pegasus Mail & the NMF, repeating until it fails with a goal of identifying the problem file or you can open each .CNM file with a text editor, discarding any that are obvious spam and then testing the remaining ones (often a malformed message file is spam).
Good luck.
