My email host Fasthosts has problems dealing with Distribution List (DL) emails but is OK with BCC. When I use a 30 address DL I get the error message: Delivery has failed on the enclosed message for the following reasons reported either by the mail delivery system on the mail relay host or by the local TCP/IP transport module:
501 5.1.3 Bad recipient address syntax
421 4.7.0 smtp.livemail.co.uk Error: too many errors
If I put the DL title in the BCC section would each one of the DL addresses get an email?

Thanks for your speedy response. Regret to say the answer is 'No'. I've tried it with a test email. The System messages showed:
Thu, 16:29:27 Newmail rule processing:
1 message coloured Bright red [the delivery failure email]
Thu, 16:29:27 Newmail rule processing:
Thu, 16:28:58 POP3: No messages in maildrop.
Thu, 16:28:13 QMAN: Scanning queue/draft directory 'C:\PMAIL\MAIL'
Thu, 16:28:13 SMTP delivery to 'C J Whitmey-contacts' [my own email address], 'I just signed this petition --'
Thu, 16:28:13 Closed AB index file for 'X7QIV3H4.PMR'
Thu, 16:28:13 Closed AB master file for 'X7QIV3H4.PMR'
Thu, 16:28:13 Opened AB index file for 'X7QIV3H4.PMR'
Thu, 16:28:13 Opened AB master file for 'X7QIV3H4.PMR'
Thu, 16:28:13 Closed AB index file for 'IXE7LP31.PMR
... a whole lot more similar.
The Delivery Failure read:
Delivery has failed on the enclosed message for the following
reasons reported either by the mail delivery system on the mail
relay host or by the local TCP/IP transport module:
TCP/IP error while processing job
A network error has occurred while WinPMail attempted to send
your message. This error could be caused by many conditions,
including the following:
* The remote host may have gone down.
* Your network may have been broken or gone down.
* You may have a configuration problem in your WINSOCK.DLL.
* If running on a SLIP line, you may have experienced a
timeout (increase the value in WinPMail's Network Config.
Dialog), or the phone line may have gone down or suffered
from excessive line noise.
And the same happened again.
I've spoken with Fasthosts. They have 'added TXT/DMARC and please allow up to 24 hours to fully take effect and monitor your email.'
We'll wait and see.

I tried an 8 named distribution list and it worked. So then tried a 10 named list and I got the above non-delivery message! My solution is to send the email to myself and b.c.c. 31 addresses in - worked fine!

I had been thinking about using the BBC with a distro list, but hadn't gotten arround to testing it.
Think one would have to have the option to hide the BCC addresses from each other set, since that would make Pegasus create individual messages for each person in the BBC versus sending one message to all BCC recipients.
Would have to look for where the option for sending BCC emails to all, or hiding them?
I have limited Distro lists, and usually just use them in the TO:
Good Info.

Searched Help.
Depending on the settings you have used in Pegasus Mail, if you specify more than one address in the BCC field, other BCC recipients may be able to see all the BCC addressees for the message: if you would prefer to have nobody know who else has received BCCs of the message, go into Tools|Options, select the Sending Mail page, and check the control labelled Suppress BCC field listings in outgoing mail.

Right. There is also a configuration option in the dlist settings.

It doesn't. Only one message gets transmitted from Pegasus Mail. It seems that all the option in the dlist setting does is replace the BCC recipient info with whatever you put in the "To: field:" field of the dlist configuration. I don't know how this differs from the setting in Tools|Options|Sending mail nor do I know how the SMTP server processes the message to the recipients in the dlist.
