Moving from 'New Mail' - doesn't ??

After many years using Pegasus and not needing 'support', I now find myself posting yet again within a few days!!

I have many customers using Pegasus and I've always been able to assist when-ever they think yhings have gone wrong but today I had a call from my eldest client (95y) who has too many messages in her 'New Mail' folder.

No problem, I thought, Make a new [Archive - Pre 2024] folder and simply move them all.

There are 839 posts and after a VERY SLOW transfer only 813 actually went across. No matter how often I tried, I couldn't get any more to move - even one at a time.

As a further test, I created [Archive 2024] and tried to copy those from Jan '24 - - - - it took 14 and refuses any more.

I did consider that it might be a disc space issue but she only has a drive C and that is 60% free.

Any suggestions as to why she has this strange behavious?

If it is the same messages that won't move, check their properties to see if they are marked as read only. This would prevent them from being moved.

A restart of Pegasus Mail would be worth a try too. This would give you a complete refresh of the New Mail folder to rule out phantom messages being listed.

That's my bet too. In fact, it would be nice if messages marked as R/O had some sort of distinguishing marker, like a different color or an icon in the status column.

Thanks for those 'insights' - I had (of course) closed & re-opened Pegasus but I hadn't considered the R/O aspect.

The client is some distance away - like an hous drive! - and I'm supporting remotely so I'll have to call her tomorrow now - I know that she has a nap at about 4pm so I'll not disturb that.

I actually concider it unlikely to be honest as there's probably 100 plus and she is not savvy enough to mark them R/O of her own volition and they are from a multiplicity of senders - - - - but it is worth a look.

I almost didn't post the R/O suggestion because this was my thinking too. I posted it because nothing else comes to mind that would prevent a move into a newly created folder located on a drive with adequate space. I took a look at Hans' 'Keystroke' page to see if maybe there was a key combination I was unaware of that could set the R/O flag but I didn't find one.

It's actually not that difficult. With the message open in the reader, you can see a set of small icons just above the toolbar, one of which is a padlock. A simple click on it and the message will be protected (toggled R/O) or vice versa.

I just learned something new, and it DOES indicate that enabling R/O could be happening unknowingly. Also, the padlock is yellow when the message is protected.

And there are shortcuts: Ctrl + R and Ctrl + U for enabling or disabling, respectively, both of them shown on the folder context menu.

Michael, we're talking about read-only, not read/unread. Read/unread status won't prevent the move of a message.

Sorry, I must have been very sleepy when writing my reply ... smile

It has long been my practice (and the habit is passed on to my clients) to use 'Message Preview', so it's very rare that any message is actually 'Opened'.

Until these icons were pointed out to me (in these posts) I'd never noticed them and I'm sure that Lady Hamilton (my friend & client) will certainly not have accidentally, let alone purposefully, click on that very small padlock on even one message, certainly not 100 ish smile

It is good to know that I'm not alone in finding this behaviour 'Odd' and seemingly without an easily determined reason.
