Pegasus 4.81 lost SMTP, POP, Identities

I'm using Pegasus 4.81 which has been fine for many months. Opened it today and my POP, SMTP and sending identities have all gone. The messages and folders are still present, but the program is behaving as if I am a new user. It's changed the window setup and font sizes, etc. I'm not too bothered about the cosmetic changes, but how do I get my POP, SMTP and identities back? (I haven't done anything except go away for a week and the computer has been off. No crap cleaners or anything....). I do have a recent backup but don't know which files to copy across. Grateful for any help.

Usually you can manage these options via Tools > Internet options and selecting the proper tab where you can add any existing settings being offered if clicking Add. If this doesn't show any such options or they seem to disappear after restarting Pegasus Mail you might have run into the issues dealt with here: https://community.pmail.com/index.php?u=/topic/12227/network-configuration-data-where-stored/1#post-57513

Question? Did you move your mailbox location?
There is an issue with with the PND files for the POP and SMTP setup.
They are placed in the new location, but something looks for them in the original location?
Quick solution is to copy the PND files from the new location, and back to the origina.

Example: I have a test setup with a user
C:\PMAIL\MAIL\Jill
Originally the PND files were in C:\PMAIL\MAIL\Jill
Moved the Mail Folder to C:\PMAIL\MAIL\Jill2
So PND files were move to that directory, but no longer in the C:\PMAIL\MAIL\Jill, so the don't show up.

On can just copy or link the PND files from the new and original directory, but it even works if empty files with the same names are created in the original directory.

Don't know about the Identity issues.

What is in your C:\PMAIL\Programs\PMAIL.CFG file
Generally a few option. Simple type of file might shows
C:\PMAIL\MAIL (if in single user setup)
C:\PMAIL\MAIL~N or C:\PMAIL\MAIL~8 (if multi user mode)

Also what does this file show.

C:\PMAIL\MAIL\PMAIL.USR

Thanks both!

I resolved it by copying the entire mail folder from my backup. Don't know what caused the issue as I had literally done nothing (I have been away for a week with the computer turned off).

This may only work until you restart Pegasus Mail, in such a case you should revisit my first reply.

Thanks Michael. The backup version seems to be behaving fine for now after several restarts. (This recent instability has prompted the decision to move away from Pegasus Mail after more than 25 years of use.)

That is a shame. The instability is not in Pegasus Mail, otherwise we all would be experiencing it. The issue you recently described is classic of a corrupted pmail.ini file. That file gets written to on shutdown. Any interference can result in corruption. Know causes are active scanning by an anti-malware product, two instances of Pegasus Mail accessing the same mailbox simultaneously, or a random system event that interrupted file modification.

Good luck with whatever you move to.

Hi Brian. There's clearly some instability or others wouldn't be having issues with where pnd files are now stored, etc. Truthfully, this is just the final push: I've been considering moving for a while as development seems to have all but halted, I'm moving my systems to Linux from Windows, and Proton better meets my mail needs. I'm certainly grateful for what Pegasus Mail has offered over these past couple of decades but, for me, it's time to move on.
