Perhaps this has been discussed earlier, but I couldn't find such topic on this forum using "search" (see my post from minutes ago).

The matter is of saving attachments from a mail. It seems that the common (I always thought that it's system-wide) feature of warning, that in the given folder a file with same name exists and so it'd be overwritten if the new is saved, is not present in PM. I cannot see any help on this, neither any option as "Warn if file exists..." etc.

Sometimes consecutive versions of attachments I receive have the same filenames and so I can unconsciously lose the previous ones.

Thanks for any suggestions (or implementing this feature into PM, if it's not present in any form yet).

AFAIK, the overwrite warning is a system warning. I receive it when saving attachments. Unfortunately, I don't have any advice about why it is not working for you.

I've just re-checked this. It is true, that often this warning appears: if you copy a single attachment or a bunch of attachments when the first is a duplicate.
But if only the second, third and so on are, or if you answer "yes" for overwriting the first, the rest is being overwritten without warnings.
So it seems, that the PM/system interface checks only the first file and assumes that the rest needn't be checked.

When I select multiple attachments to save I receive this Extract Attachments window asking for instructions. When I select the first option I am notified about the overwrite at each file save prompt. I can only see the second option with "overwrite" enabled as a way to produce what you describe. That is pretty obvious though so I don't know what could be causing the behavior you describe.

Just as a side note, when attachments are saved by an incoming new mail rule it will always overwrite the files in the destination directory of the same name without warning.

But, Brian, at my instance it's just as I described. I'm of course familiar with the Extract window, but even if I leave the "Overwrite files..." option empty when saving multiple files in the same directory, the system doesn't warn me of overwriting the second and following attachments.

Is it only in my system?

I have just done some more testing and think I might have duplicated what you describe.
When I selected the option to "Prompt for a filename for each attachment" I was prompted for overwrite approval for each attachment as it was processed.
When I selected the option to " Prompt for a filename for the first attachment,..." I was prompted for overwrite approval for the first attachment only, the others were overwritten. Is this option the one you are using?

Yes, that's it. It happens sometimes, that the first attachment in the message is not-duplicated, but the other ones are. Or, rarely, that I acknowledge overwriting the first, but wouldn't approve overwriting of the rest, if I had a chance to decide.
Of course the file-by-file solution is more safe, but sometimes 'boring' when you have several(dozen) attachments.
As the "The file xxx already exist. Do you want to overwrite..." prompt seems to be the system-wide one, the easiest "patch" that would be addition of "...and all following files" to this is excluded. A proper caveat in the "Extract attachments" window could help, but this would make it less legible. The only way out would be I think making the PM/Windows interface to "send" the attachments one-by-one in the background, as for now it seems that it does it in batch.

I don't think the overwrite without approval behavior is what the developer intended. I will call it to his attention.
