Confusing issue copying portions of PMAIL messages into MS Word XP

I'm having a very bizarre glitch copying passages from Pegasus e-mails to MS Word (I'm still using XP3 MSWord2000 because I have thoroughly customized it to all my needs, much prefer its interface, and it continues to work quite well in my Win10...other than the following glitch).

I can highlight an entire e-mail message in Pegasus 4.81.1154, then copy and paste it into my old MSWord2000 for editing, etc. - and there is no problem doing this. Everything pastes completely.

However, if I select just a portion of that same message (a portion which even shows up in MS Office Clipboard just fine, ready to paste), trying to paste it into a MSWord page always results in nothing, a total blank!

BUT if I first copy and paste this portion into MS Notepad or MS Wordpad, it pastes just fine into those. And then if I copy that Notepad or Wordpad paste, then paste it into MSWord, it pastes just fine!! But this is a frustrating work-around that I would like to eliminate.

I would be thankful for any solution or even just an explanation for this strangely inconsistent copy-and-past mystery.

I'm assuming you are copying parts of a fancy (i.e. formatted) text and part of the formatting code is missing. When this bogus text is pasted on Word it doesn't parse well and is rejected.
When you mentioned that text pasted on Notepad, then selected again and pasted on Word works fine is because Notepad is a plain text editor only and so all formatting is pruned. Several clipboard extenders have this feature allowing the user to choose what to paste. I'm not a Word user but I'm pretty much sure it has a Paste special feature from where you can choose Paste Unformatted Text to your Word document.
