PMail suddenly very slow to do anything - Windows 11

Hi all

I'm running PMail Version 4.73.639, Mar 30 2018 on a standalone Lenovo laptop running Windows 11.

A few days ago, my PMail started working really really slowly. I changed nothing on my PC, all other programs seem to be functioning normally.

What I mean by "working slowly" is that it takes 33-36 seconds (I timed it) for a simple, small, text-only email to open from my New Mail folder. If I'm in the message reader window and hit F7 to go to the attachments - it takes 33 seconds.
Ctrl+N to compose new message - 35 secs.
Deleting messages is normal speed. Moving messages to a different folder is normal speed.

I did try re-installing my current version (I had a file called w32-473.exe stored, I ran that and chose the "update" option) - didn't help. I wanted to download the latest version but I see that the pmail.com site is down.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Is link I made to the file. Not super fast on uploads. ISP just upgraded download to 1G put upload on 10M.
Was 200M/8M before.

Question. How many new mail messages do you have? Know there is a number of messages in new mail (individual CNM files) that causes a slow down.

Hope that helps.

Also, put it via ftp here in NV on notebooks ftp server at mom's.
Has 250M/30M, upload is faster.
ftp to site ladysherriff.dyndns.org
get w32-481-pb3.exe

Tested using ncftp. Lot of browsers no longer support ftp.

Also, available via https on that machine, but don't have a cert on it.
Cox blocks port 80 access, so can't use lets encrypt to make certificate.

Should work.

Not substantially more than I usually have.

Thanks - I downloaded and installed this version. No change - still taking 35 seconds to open a new mail message.

Have you changed or modified antivirus program. Since Pegasus opens each of the CNM files some anti-viruses can cause a delay. Some people exclude email directory from active scanning. The attachments are generally openned in temp or other directory, so are still scanned when accessed.

Think number is like 2000 or so, and it works fine if under the number, but going above it causes the issue. I don't leave messages in new folder. Delete the Spam and move all others to folders.

I had a very similar problem. The culprit appeared to be Windows 11 default printer. I had Samsung M2070 Series wirelessly connected. It was very slow, especially on internet via VPN. Since I use this printer not often and it is usually turned off, I changed default Windows printer to Adobe PDF and everything’s fine now. Microsoft Print to PDF also works. When I need to use my Samsung printer I just switch default to it and after printing switch back to Adobe PDF. I heard that Pegasus takes fonts from default printer driver and it doesn’t work well with some.

Printer driver is a very good possible issue. Recall seeing this is past. Pegasus uses printer driver fonts in displaying process, and does some connection to printer/driver. Don't know the full process, but know creating a local printer has solved issue in past. I haven't used windows as my primary OS with Pegasus since 98 or maybe XP? and back then was on a Novell Network, and it had no issues with Epson and HP printers.

Been so long never thought of that. Run Pegasus under WINE on Linux, and printer is linked to a local Canon printer on network. Have used both direct access or IPP access using Linux server.

I was about to suggest checking the default printer. Pegasus checks the default printer driver for font settings, etc. For ages, my default printer has been a PDFill PDF Printer.

YES!!!! Thank you everyone. It was the default printer - indeed, that was the only thing that had changed within the past few days. Changed it and all good now.
