AOL suddenly rejecting login credentials

Last night, Pegasus was able to log in to my host, AOL, with no problem. This morning, I am getting a login error indicating that my username or password are incorrect. Pegasus is doing the login, so there is no question that I may be typing it in incorrectly.

Not sure if the problem is with AOL or with Pegasus. Is there a newer version of Pegasus I may need to download?

Anyone else having this issue?

Jean

Depends on the version you're using, please check and go to https://www.pmail.com/ for comparing. But the most likely reason is a change of their login processing: They might have switched to using secured logins requiring adjustments of your login procedure with regard to enable SSL/TLS, see your pop3 and smtp settings for your account on Tools > Internet options > Receiving/Sending configurations - if you have not already done so.

Interestingly, without my taking any action at all, Pegasus is suddenly logging in happily again. Perhaps AOL was working on something.

I imagine that what is happening here is the same as what happened with Yahoo some time ago. Yahoo and AOL merged under the OATH brand and may also have unified their procedures.
Some time ago, Yahoo started requiring the use of a password generated by themselves for authentication of email services (POP3, IMAP and SMTP). This procedure/password is exclusive for use in email clients. For access to the service through the web interface, your login and password remain unchanged. Perhaps it would be convenient to inquire about any recent changes with the service provider.

The strange thing is that I was able to log in to myAOL account through a browser while Pegasus was failing to log in.

That isn't surprising when considered in context with GMail on which you can login to their web interface but an email client can't authenticate with the same credentials. It must use either an app password or OAUTH2.

I'm glad that it is working for you now and hope it was indeed just a transient issue on AOL's end.

Is your problem related to, or at least partially related to, the options on this page?
