Search New Mail Folder? Can't Do

There probably isn't a day goes by where I don't search my new mail folder, usually many times. Believe me, if this were a clear problem, it wouldn't last a second (the problems that get fixed fastest are always the ones that impact on me personally).

If you can come up with any more clues as to what might be happening, please mention them here and I'll try to make time to look into them.

Cheers!

Friends,

I've been using Pegasus 4.41 since its release, and love the program--except for the fact that I cannot search the new mail folder.  I recall this being possible in earlier versions, before the fancy new "search folders for text" dialog box was introduced.  Now, if I use cntrl-f or edit-find text and use the "search new folders for text" on the new mail folder, I get nothing.

Further, if I open the folders list, which contains the new mail folder, and try a search of "my mailbox" with "search all folders in the selected mailbox" checked, I can get no results from the new mail folder.

As one whose new mail folder often gets overcrowded, I find this a serious limitation.  Am I doing something wrong?

Many thanks!

I just opened my New Mail folder and searched it with no problems.  Please describe, keystroke by keystroke, how you're trying to search your NM folder.  Include which part of the screen has focus when you do so.

OK, here goes.  Open new mail folder; click find (the "search folders for text" dialog opens); click "single phrase," "search in headers only," and select "search in current folder only," leaving everything else as is.  Type in an email address that is visible right in front of me in the new mail folder; click "search."  The window disappears, nothing is found.  Same result with any number of items that I know are in the new mail folder.

Same result if I unclick "search in headers only" and search for text that I know is in any number of messages in my new mail folder.  Also same result if I open the "Folders" tree, select "my mailbox," hit cntrl+f,  and do a similar search with the "Search all folders in the current mailbox" setting.  Nothing in the new mail folder is found.

I have used Pegasus 4.41 since it's intro in 2006 on four different computers (2 in my office, two at home).  The behavior has been identical in all four installations, namely, I can't search the new mail folder.

If I'm doing something wrong, I'd be interested in knowing.

 Thanks!  Lance

Well, that worked for me, it produced 29 matches:

Interesting ... when I search for a word that is visible in the "From" field (as opposed to an e-mail address I know is there) it turns up nothing.  I'll report this back to the beta-testers and see what happens.

(LATER) I restarted Pegasus Mail and now it's working fine, and I can't get it to fail:

Were you in Preview Mode or List Mode in the new-mail folder?  You might try messing around with the cursor focus (making sure a message in the New Mail folder is highlighted before you search, try searching with the focus in the message, etc.)

Angus,

I always work in List Mode.  Since you mentioned it, I opened the Folders window, put it in Preview Mode, and selected the New mail folder.  Interesting, using that setup I can search the New mail folder.

To clarify: I generally work with New Mail folder open as it appears when you click the "Open or re-scan your new mail folder" icon at the top left.  In this mode, which I guess is List Mode, I can't search.  Now, thanks to your suggestion, I can search in Preview Mode in the Folders (ctrl+L) window.

I note that I can also search the New Mail folder using the Incremental Search (F5) function.

All this is curious, but many thanks.
