Popfile problem with Pmail and long domain names

Ah well, just found out what the problem was... and it is right in my subject line.... Although Pegasus was trying to access Popfile, Popfile itself was not actually installed any longer! Hours later.... it's all fixed. The second problem that was compounding the error was a huge mail in her inbox with an attachment that was possibly corrupt that was clogging the download. Once that was deleted online, the rest is now working fine. Thanks for those who scratched heads over this.

Hello all,

I have enountered a problem using Popfile and Pegasus mail with a domain name that is rather long. Is it possible that Pegasus mail does not like to have more than a certain number of characters in the username field? The problem with a certain domain of a friend of mine is that the server host name has now changed to include "mail." in front of the domain. The field is now mail.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.com, which presents a problem when using Popfile. I have a feeling that this is becoming truncated when the following is used: mail.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.com:user@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx.com When using Popfile, the server host name field is filled with 127.0.0.1 and the total characters at left have to all go into the username field. Has anyone else encountered this problem? My friend is getting a "15: Peer connect failure (the host has refused the connection)." error message.

Best regards,

Ellie

I'd tell them to use session logging to see exactly what is being sent to the server.  In any case the IP address cam be used in place of the server address or domain name to reduce the size of the string.  The user@[<IP address>]  literal addressing can be used if required.

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for this advice. The plot thickens here as, when she does not set Popfile, but uses regular mail retrieval settings, it now seems as if nothing is happening when she calls for mail. Nothing at all, according to her, so something is stopping Pegasus mail from even trying to access the server. As soon as I re-set the Popfile settings then either she gets the error message or the same, nothing at all happens. Very odd.

Unfortunately she is so far away that I cannot go and see exactly what is happening.
