home and new mailbox location

This is what I always do when my mail is on a server:

Place mail on the server e.g.:
\\SERVER\MAIL\MYMAILBOX1

Start a new setup with the latest downloaded setup file form the Pegasus site, just make a new program folder or use the older one, but then empty.
While installating do NOT mark the "make sample user mailbox"
After installating you start the Pegasus program and you can choose from 3 different installations, choose the lowest one (more users on a network).
Pegasus will ask you where you mail folder is, just type:

\\SERVER\MAIL\

And voila now you see all the users with the mailboxen inside Pegasus.

Hopefully this is clear.

Hi, I have been using pmail on my desktop for 10 years. My mail folder locations have always been on the c drive (C:\PMAIL\MAIL\ADMIN). Now I need to move my mail folder out onto a server (\\ABCD\MAIL\ADMIN). so that I can access my email using roaming profiles on a laptop (and have my files backed up). Currently the "My Documents" folder is located on the server and will be the new home for the mail folders. I have read some directions from T.R.Stephenson (6/23/2007) and from the knowledge base. One method works with the pconfig.exe utility. Unfortunately I am running a 64bit system and cannot use the utility. I have also directly changed the pmail.ini file by changing the settings for HOME mailbox location, NEW mailbox location, and working mailbox location. I have tried every combination of the above and either PMAIL wants to set up a new mailbox or just hangs at the startup and either looks for startup files. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. RJ

Not sure what you mean about 64 bit system and pconfig.exe.  It should run just fine and if it does not then you'll never get this to work with your existing setup  without deleting the existing pmail.cfg file.
...the pconfig.exe utility. Unfortunately I am running a 64bit system and cannot use the utility.
I hit this problem, too. Pconfig.exe is a 16-bit Windows executable. This works in 16-bit compatibility mode on all 32-bit versions of Windows (including Vista, apparently), but 64-bit Vista will not run any 16-bit executable. (It runs 32-bit applications, such as Pegasus Mail itself, in a compatibility mode, very efficiently.)

What I did to set up my PMAIL.CFG file was to find it (it's in the Pegasus Mail Programs directory unless Vista has "virtualised" this because you installed Pegasus Mail in your Windows program files directory) and delete it. Then when next you run Pegasus Mail itself, you'll be prompted for enough information to construct a new copy. Since the file doesn't store very much, this isn't as tedious as it sounds. I hope this helps.

I have found that 64-bit Vista works very nicely for 32-bit programs apart from any Windows shell extensions, which do not work because Windows Explorer is itself a 64-bit program and cannot load and execute 32-bit code.

Thank you for your responses. I was able to work around the pconfig program as mhi suggested and the cfg file is created correctly now. Unfortunately PMail still does not find my new mailbox location. It starts up saying "Starting up - please wait" and then hangs indefinitely. Do I need to make additional changes to teh PMAIL.ini file?

Generally no other changes are required to get WinPMail to work.  I would try removing all mail from the new mail directory for starters though to see if this is why it's hanging.
