Save Message Changes on Move after Deleting Attachments

Things are going to change a lot with implementing the new MailStore back-end as currently being developed by David Harris.

Hello everybody,

I have found a behaviour of Pmail that I'm not able to explain to myself , call this a bug ?

I can take any email that has an attachment in my new mail folder, open it (classic view,
not preview), delete the attachment, switch back to the message tab and then click on "move" to move the
email to a different folder. Pmail will then ask if I want to save the changes, which I do, so click on yes.

Pmail will then open the next email in the new mail folder
What happens now is that systematically the email was moved to a different folder BUT at the next scan of the
new mail folder a copy of this email will reappear in the new mail
folder (attachment deleted)!!!!
This is something I do very regularly (opening an email, saving the
attachment, deleting it and the moving the email), and I have
everytime to delete then the email that is reappearing in the new
mail folder. I cannot see how this could be a useful behaviour od Pmail.
In brief, it is simply sufficient to delete an attachment and then move the
email, to have it reappear in the new mail window.

Is this a problem with on my system (Windows XP) or is this repeatable on other systems ?

If this is repeatable, can anybody explain to me why Pmail is doing this ?

Thanks in advance

Oliver

You moved it then you saved it again.  The the moved message have the attachment deleted?  When you are deleting the attachments you must do the save before the move.

Dear Thomas,

thank you very much for your answer.

How do you do the "save" "changes of the message" ? The button "Save" in the "Attachments" window will save the attachments, the button "Save" in the "Message" window will save the message as text file. I haven't found a way to save the "changes of the message" otherwise then closing the message window and then pmail will ask to save the changes or not automatically.

If one should not move the message before it is saved, then in my opinion the move button should be greyed out. Or Pmail should save the message status automatically after deleting attachment or after leaving the attachments tab.

In my opinion one cannot just suppose that a user "knows" that he has to close the message before moving it when he has deleted an attachment.

cheers

But now you do.   ;-)  The process is not completed by writing the new CNM file until you close or move on to the next message.

Ok, so the problem is how Pmail controls the saving of the CNM file : it seems what happens is that when you move the email, pmail does not know that when closing or moving to the next message, the message should be saved in the folder where the email had been moved to and not as CNM file in the new mail folder. Not a very consistent behaviour. I think there should be either a flag, so that when pmail saves automatically it knows where or there should be a "save changes" dialog directly aver moving the message. This way the doublication of the email could be avoided.

Well, I still think that this problem comes close to being a bug and should perhaps be brought to the attention of David Harris.

Yours to judge from here :-)

 Cheers

I've used PM for several years and I like it very much.  Thanks to the people who write and maintain the code.  It is good.

I must say that I would find it useful to be able to delete an attachment, and then move the file w/o saving it first.

Keep up the good work
