Is this scenario Possible?

1 Non-Local Message Ignored

This indicates that there is no receipt in the message matching a local user.  For a mailing list the addresses is <list name>@<internet name for this system> and if this is not correct yuo need to create an alias to the list name.

Dear All,

Totally new to Mercury, but I think it might be useful for my needs......but I ask, is this possible...

At the moment, I'm using Outlook Express's Distribution list facility to send out jokey emails to a few friends of mine, and every now and again, I like to check they still enjoy the emails, email addresses are valid, etc....

But I'd like the option (only probably because I wanna play with Mecury to achieve my needs) to give the user the means of self unsubscribing and re-subscribing, say they  go on Holiday, or change email addresses, etc.....But to put the icing on the cake, I'd like Mecury to check my 'Internal' email, and if it detects an email, it sends it out to all the users on the list?

So, I'd send an email mail to jokes@mydomain.net and it would check, find one, and use my ISP to send out the email to people on my list.....

Is this possible? I've tried setting it up, but for the life of me I can't get it to work....I think I'm putting the wrong settings in, or not understanding what it is asking from me?

Hope someone can help me...

Regards

Paul.

Yes possible, the scenario you describe is what the list engine is meant for. However your question isn't specific enough to answer.

What specifics would you need?

I can quite happily answer most questions, but I don't know what I'm best to offer out initially.. [:(]

Sorry to bump this up, but I've returned again to this challenge 4 month later, and again, I've fallen flat on my face.....

I've tried to configure Mercury32 to a test setup to see if I get it to work...

I've got 3 email addresses in use...

1) Email Address that emails are Sent too

2) 2 other test email  addresses that I'm trying to use as a 'Distribution List'

I set up the POP3 Client to read email address 1, which it finds an email (that i've sent from Outlook Express from my main email account, which I'm not using in Mercury)

All I keep getting is ..

1 Message Succesfully Recieved

1 Non-Local Message Ignored..

For the life of me I can't find an option to allow non-local messages? So I can't even get to the point where the 'distribution list' trys to work, I don't even know if I have that part setup right?

What am I doing wrong?

Well, it's a problem with your mailing list setup, obviously, but there is still not enough details to say what it is. What you should do is go to Configuration/Mailing Lists/Add list. In List address enter "jokes" (if that's what you would like to call the list). In Membership file enter a filename with full path, like c:\mercury\jokes.mlf. When the list is created mark it and click Manage settings... Go to the Membership tab and enter mail addresses of everyone that should be a member of the list, and change other settings for the list if you want to (please read the help text for this first though). Close the configuration dialog and send a test message to jokes@yourdomain.com. It should now be distributed to the recipients in the membership list.

I did all that prior to sending this post, but every time it pulls the 'test message' down from the email address I've set up to get them sent to, it processes it, and I get..

1 Non-Local Message Ignored

and then it doesn't formward the emails on to the list I've set up with 2 test email addresses (I've set it up with 2 test emails addresses of mine, before I use people real addresses)

It's like because the message it coming from the internet and not my LAN is doesn't like it?
