POP3 Mail Fails, NOD32 Interaction

Large emails are blown up in transport due to the nature of going from 8 to 7 bit mime with maximum row length of 512 chars

My POP3 mail fails with just one of my three users, running WinXP SR2.  Whenever I attempt to download the mail, the NOD32 antivirus program attempts a download, and eventually the POP3 mail download stops trying to get mail, on message 1 of 10.  I have tried rebooting, no change.  I have gone to the NOD32 program to ask for updates, but it says I am current.  I don't know anything else to do, but I don't know how I will ever get at my mail, either.

Looks like the NOD32 proxy is failing, probably via a timeout, not too unusual for a proxy.  Don't use NOD32 between WinPMail and the server and see what happens.  Make sure your POP3 timeout is at least 120 seconds.  If this works simply use the VirScan extension  to call NOD32 when reading the mail as opposed to scanning when downloading.

Can you configure NOD32 to send something to Pegasus while it downloads the mail to prevent timeout?

Does it do that only on big emails, or everyone?

Try using the Selective mail Download to see what the messages look like on the server.  You can also try increasing the timeout in the WinPMail POP3 setup to ensure the connection to NOD32 is not timing out.

If you've had another AV-scanner installed prior to NOD32, the proxies tend to hang. You then need to clean the proxies manually from the registry.

I have the same combo, had same problem when people were sending me 1 mb emails with pictures attached. After some trials with 60 and 120 sec I had enough and changed my timeout settings to 6000 (six thousand). Don't really know how I got to that number, but I have no problems anymore, but some emails just take forever to download. However, I am not in a hurry, just lazy, and the download is running in the background.
