Stuck and desperate for help!!! Anyone!!! mercury core module

If you have an MX pointer pointing to your server, you should also make an entry of this IP in the domains section.

This means that whenever there are problems with name resolution you're still reachable at f.ex. hostmaster@[ip-number entered]

ok everyone.. I know this is probably the simplest.. or dumbest question on the panet, but I am stuck.

I am using the latest version of MercuryMail v4.51. I am using the mail server with xampp. All services are running.

Here comes the question..

I own a domain, we'll call it mysite.com. I would like to handle the mail for my domain.

In the mercury core module, General tab.. Internet name for this system.. what do I enter in there? would it be mail.mydomain.com or mydomain.com or ????

Honestly now.. I have been over and over this and I can not receive or send successfully. I can send from the localhost easily enough, but we all know what happens when mail is delivered from an IP.. bouncy, bouncy..

So can someone help me out please.

Also in the local domains tab. I read the help file for setting up the domains, but it is confusing. Am I to include the IP of my ocal machine??

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

First of all, upgrade to 4.52. This will fix a critical vulnerability in the SMTP server.

Internet name for this system:

Error messages go out from postmaster@this.name so I would suggest using the base domain, (mysite.com)

If the SMTP client field "announce myself as" is empty, it uses this name in the HELO .

If you have an MX record in your DNS for mail.mysite.com you should use this in the SMTP client.

Local Domains:

put mysite.com as a local domain

Relaying:

Make sure the top two relaying controls are checked, then tick the third (Authenticated Users may relay..)

In the Connection control, add an entry for 127.0.0.1 and check the box "Users from this range may relay".

Do the same for your local network range. Now your local net & webserver can send mail without authenticating and anyone on the outside must authenticate in order to relay mail to non-local addresses and you are not an open relay [:)]
