I really do not know, all I know is in the past on Windows workstations this was a problem.  Also had a problem with older Linux systems.  I've just quit using directories with leading zeros.

Hi

I am in the process of setting up mercury for a school im doing a works placement at through university.  It will be used in the schools domain only (so no email access in/out to internet and i have the money from the school to buy the required license- when i get it working)

There are to be 160 users of the system, so i added 10 users (0001 - 0010) using the gui in mercury.  I tested these accounts and everything was fine...

The problems started when i tried to automate adding the other 150 users to the system...

Here is what i did...

I made a simple batch file to add user folders (0011 through 0160) to E:\MERCURY\MAIL\

Using another batchfile I copied the PASSWD.PM file from a working account (0001 made using the gui) to everyone of these new user folders.

I edited the PMAIL.USR file from E:\MERCURY\MAIL\ in the correct format to show these new usernames...

I started off mercury, the GUI tool - manage local users - lists all the new accounts i made.. however, none of the new users (0011 - 0160) can send emails to the server, the previous users i made with the GUI (0001 - 0010) can still send and receive emails...

Also any new users i now make with the GUI cannot send emails to the server, i am getting a

"550 address <test1@domain.gov.uk> not known here, port 25, secure (SSL): No, server error 550 error number 0x800CCC79"   error message

I have done something wrong and for the life of me i can't figure out what.  I am going to reboot the server03 at lunch time, maybe that will fix it... if it doesn't i see no option but to uninstall mercury.

Please does anyone have an opinion on whats going on?

I thank anyone who replies in advance for their time.

Regards

If you do not want to access the internet, why use Mercury/32..? You can use Pegasus Mail... Another wonderful product by Mr Harris.

I'm not an expert, but I would suggest that error 550 is an SMTP error... Are you running any protocol modules..? Is Mercury/32 trying to relay the messages..?

Sounds like there is something wrong with the pmail.usr file. I would expect this to be some type problem right after the 10th user.  FWIW, I assume that you are not using a 0001-0160 for the actual user names.  Leading zeros can cause problems with MSDOS type directories.you should use 10001-10160 if using actuar numbers for the usernames.
