smtp mercury does not receive mails

How the world was a lot nicer if : there was no spam, there was no war, there was no .....

Well, all you people thanks for listening and giving points in the right direction.

The error was not there, when sending me an e-mail, you get the delivery notification error that the domain does not exists. so last friday i found after four e-mails that my former hoster, who do control and maintain my ip to domainname (DNS) that 'someone' had change things although they did say at first that there was no changing..... )-:

Well, someone did actually change my MX record, resulting in a ip.name  instead of an ip only or name only.

Finding that, restoring that, evrything works fine.

I must now send them a message that this may have been an small error (leaving a period in the line where it does not belong) but the consequences were severe.

Thanks to all for helping me out.

Anne.

Hi,

I have a akward problem. My home server w2003 holds mercury and there was till last wednesday not a problem detectable.

Because i dove into the mercury server to find the problem that actually was not at my side, i think, because i did not alter anything, except a Windows2003 update from MickeySoft, i still cannot send email to any of the adresses within my domain. Sending from is/was not a problem until i altered too much! Grrrrr.... Ok, ok, i restored from backup the directory MERCURY from 1 through 12 march and now i am able to send again (praise the backup!)

I tried to telnet on both ports 25 and 110 and the response was good.

Is there anyone who can help or suggest anything, it is much appreciated.

I checked my MX record (not hosted by myself) and found my ip number and my domain name..... is that correct?

Well, i hope someone is willing to help...

Thanks

If there was a security update from MS, I would check the firewall settings.

Also turn on logging in each module and look at the result.  Is it just internal or does it affect external mail too?

What kind of error message do you get?  What is showning on the consoles?  How are you trying to send to the local user?
