Make a folder with an unique filename

Beware.

Starting from rev 3 I think (or was it 4?), David started to use a previously unused field for timezone data.

If you use the old version just to rename folder files, that may be safe, but I wouldn't let a 2.x PM release do anything else with my mailbox!

Just my $0.02!

When doing  anew folder in todays version you give the folder a name, but the file name are done by PM to FOLxxxxx.PMM.

If having a folder called 2007IN or 2008OUT I would prefer to have the file name 2007IN and 2008OUT as well

In older version of PM it was possible to give the file a name after own choice. How to do that in last version?

I just did a test which worked fine:

Create your new folder, use Folder Information to get the name of the folder e.g. fol067hg.pmm. Quit Pegasus Mail, go to the Mail Account directory and locate the fol067hg.pmm and the fol067hg.pmi files. Rename both to whatever you want.

Just make sure that both the pmm and the pmi have same name before the extension.

I did this on a newly created folder which obviously did not contain any mail. You may want to create a dummy folder and copy messages to it, then rename the pmm and pmi files to test that the procedure works.

Good luck

Do what I do, simply run the old version against the new version and change the folder names.  Make sure you are only running one version at a time.  I've not had any particular problems running all versions of PMail and WinPMail against the same mailbox.
