New mail filtering on IMAP inbox

Is there any way to do this now? Also, how can I run a filter against an IMAP Inbox to move old messages to a local folder; I have created a rule set and also the local folder but so far have not found a way to run the filter against the Inbox. I've set the filter to run on 'open' rather than 'close', but upon opening the Inbox, the filter isn't run.  Shouldn't autofilter folders work against incoming IMAP mail too?

EDIT: I am now waiting for the results of selecting Tools ->  Mail Filtering Rules -> Apply General Rule Set to Folder to see if that runs the rule set against an IMAP Inbox...

EDIT: That works OK...

Still wondering about how to have this done automatically without needing to open and close the folder. Cygwin is running on this host - could I set up a cron job to do this?

Thanks for any help

Hi,

First I'd like to say thanks to the author for creating such a rich mail client. I used to use it many years ago as my main mail client, I stopped when I came to like a long dead client called Kaufman Mail Warrior.

These days my requirements of a mail client are different - I need IMAP. I've been using Mozilla Thunderbird for a few years now but I have two main issues with it. The first is the huge amount of resources it chews up and the second related issue is that it's slow and clunky. I have also currently got a major problem with it in that it keeps deciding not to run mail filters automatically.

Anyway, I've had enough and I've decided to give PMail another bash. I've got it set up with my IMAP account no problem, other than hanging for 20 seconds or so for some reason (I'll look into this at some point) when I hit new mail button it seems to be working OK.

However, it seems to me that the new mail filters do not work on IMAP? Is this true? I'm finding it a little hard to believe that's the case so I'm hoping I'm just doing something wrong. As a test I set up a very obvious filter to make any mail sent to a specific address turn pink. This didn't work in the new mail filter list. I then added the filter to the folder open list for the IMAP inbox. This works but unfortunately not having it do it automatically is no use to me (ie Thunderbird issue...) and also it takes a very very long time to chew through the mail in the inbox each time I open it.

So, is it simply the case I can't use the new mail filtering with IMAP or am I missing some crucial option?

Thanks in advance and my apologies if this has been asked before (I did try searching),

Rob

The IMAP4 does not use the new mail folder (directory) and thus dos not use the new mail filtering.  You can create a general rule set and attach it to the IMAP4 INBOX to effectively do the same thing each time the INBOX is opened though.

D'oh, that's exactly what I feared. The trouble is I leave my mail client open a lot of the time and having to manually run filters just isn't for me.

Unfortunately I think I'll need to keep searching for a mail client until Pegasus implements this feature, which I'm pretty sure will happen in the future. Shame as it's such a nice client.

Thanks for your help though, I hope to be using Pegasus in the future.
