Try setting this to just "Trash"
I changed that setting. I'm still getting the error, although it is "moving" the message (or tagging it in Gmail language). When I hit the "D" key to delete the message the number in the "Trash" folder increases by one, I get the error message popup and it appears that the message is still in the Inbox.. If I look at any other folder and click back on the Inbox folder, the message is no longer there.
PS. Just saw your last post. Deleted IMAP messages are just marked as deleted on the server and are not removed until a 'PURGE' command is sent. Gmail seems to have 'virtual folders' that may make this process slightly fuzzier, as I think the PURGE needs to be done on the REAL FOLDER that contains the deleted message.
I know there's an issue with the way Gmail works using tags instead of folders. I don't mind logging into the webmail interface from time to time to purge the Trash folder. In fact, that's not necessary because Gmail automatically purges the folder of 30 day old messages so I wouldn't have to log in. I just want to get rid of the annoying popup that tells me "the IMAP server that manages this mailbox... has reported an error...The operation cannot be completed", when in reality the operation was completed, or at least appears to have been completed if I click on another folder and then click back.
Change the timeout to 300 seconds. You might nget by with less but GMail sometimnes is a very busy server and you need to give it time to respond.
I've upped the timeout to 300 seconds as you suggest, but I'm still getting the popup error. It pops up just a few seconds after whatever it is I'm doing. It's almost like it's erroring on refreshing the folder or something like that.
Like I said, I delete messages immediately, I do not store them anywhere.
The problem is I want to make sure they get moved to the Trash folder in Gmail so that Gmail will truly purge them later. I access Gmail from Pegasus, from Chatteremail on my Palm Treo 700p and from the Gmail interface whenever I can't get access with my Palm. Ultimately I use Pegasus on my main computer to store my emails in the appropriate folders after I've dealt with them. But I need consistency across all three platforms and need to make sure Pegasus truly deletes or moves them to the Trash folder so Gmail can purge them. I don't need for Pegasus to think the message is deleted but for it to still show up in Chatteremail or in the Gmail web interface - I get easily confused! [:S]
Thanks,
Nathan
