Oh hey,

If PMail went with MySQL for mail organization/storage, then having online repository for sync would be easy, with subscription.  David needs to think about this as it would be additional revenue generator.

Having used a number of SQL type applications I  really would not want to be using this type of operation to sync between a lap top and a desk top system on a regular basis.  Recovering a corrupted database  without a daily backup on the system would be a nightmare.  I really do not like putting all of my eggs in one basket.  Right now if I lose a folder I've lost just one set of mail.  If I were to lose an SQL database all the mail is gone.

All,

I have PMail, on DT and LT machines, one with wireless, so using in roaming mode, other fixed connection.  Problem is I need to sync emails between both machines, once I connect the LT back in the network.  What is the best method to do this?

It's not all that easy to do unless you connect both to a common mailbox all the time.  For example, I'm on the road right now connecting to my home Mercury/32 server via IMAP4.  If I did not use IMAP4 I would keep a copy of all the mail I wanted to put back on the desktop system in a transfer folder and then move it back to the correct folder on return.

FWIW, when leaving home I simply copy the entire mailbox to the laptop to bring it up to date.  That way my glossary, addressbooks, etc. are all current.  When I get back I connect to the lan via wireless and then transfer the mail to the proper account via IMAP4.

T,

So can I move a folder from LT under PMail to the DT then re-index or do I need to set up Mercury to do all this?

T,

Should this be a needed enhancement for next release, especially now that almost all of us are now mobile in one way or another.

You actually use the "Add mailbox to list" and move the messages back from the laptop to the desktop.  You can try moving folders back and forth but that's a good way to mess up the folder structure.

Not sure you really really want to try doing this, this a a really good way to mess up a mailbox.  I you really want to be a road warrior then get yourself a GMail account  and make that your primary mail location.  You then connect via IMAP4 from any machine you are currently using with WinPMail and not worry about synchronizing two different mailboxes.

That's the primary reason none of my kids are using anything but Yahoo and GMail for their personal mail.  In my case I have a Mercury/32 server running and accessible from any place in the world so I can get my mail.  Most people do not have a fixed IP address that would allow them to run their own server.

T,

I added Mecury to the machine, but it blew out localhost, so had to disable.  I then made virtual host under "http://localhost/mercury/" but it doesn't work right.

Any suggestions?

Also all folders blew out again, about the umpteenth time, and I'm wondering when we are getting this on MySQL so we quite loosing crap?  In the process I lost an email from D&B with one of my companies D&B numbers.  They do not like to resend so now I'm hung with them for next 90 days or so, till I can get some help fixing that.

My machine is setup with:

D:\Mail\PMail       = PMail Execs & Dist Lists

D:\Mail\Mercury   = Mercury Execs

E:\Mail\PMail      = PMail Mailboxes

Don't understand how to make this all work right together.

T,

I've had Web Mail since 1998, also the year I got PMail, with both corecomm.com and mail.com, but do not want to have to deal with the online interfaces, especially for organizing, working with, replying to, mail campaigning to customers, etc.

I currently have over 5M mails in my mailboxes and get over 500 a day.  If I used Web Mail it would be impossible to handle.

So I use PMail, but it definitely has some technical querks and limitations.  I would like to see it improved, because now it is competing with things like OpenEMM and other mailer tools.  I would be on OpenEMM already if the Python Windows Installer worked correctly, but I'm having to debug it, as it is not written correctly to find any of the PHP triad (easyPHP, PHPtriad, WAMP, xamp) installer configs, nor will it work with installs outside of the "C:" drive.

I plan to load it on my Ubuntu box, but lastest upgrade of Ubuntu totally wiped my box, so having to download new 8.x, create/burn ISO and start all-over there.

Oh well, never a dull moment!  LOL!!!
