How to make outgoing URLs underlined and clickable?

[quote user="PaulW"]

As Marc says, if you don't check 'Rich Text' your mail is sent plain text, and most mailers (Pegasus Mail included) will recognize something that starts 'http://' as an HTML link and underline it.

If you check 'Rich Text' your mail will be sent as HTML (optionally with a plain text version), and you have to insert a link by using the 'link' button on the rich text toolbar to get it underlined and active.

Thanks, Paul. I had forgotten completely about that link button. Can't see the forrest for the trees, sometimes! [:)]

Had it doing this, but now it no longer is. People complain that my email containing URLs does not make the URLs clickable and they must cut and paste them into their browser. What have I messed up?

Thanks,

Not sure but if you are sending HTML that may be causing a problem on the other end with some mailers.

I suggest you ensure that the full Url is coded. ie start Url with http://

I've done that, Martin. What I do find is that if I disable the rich text box, the URL shows up as underlined and clickable on the receiving end. Weird!

Make sure that you have "Generate Multipart/Alternative" checked in menu Tools/Options/Outgoing Mail/Sending Mail, and you check RichText when composing the message.

He will always have problems with not-clickable URLs if he uses the multipart option plus the rich text (=HTML) option.

If

he inserts a pure URL (e.g. "http://www.example.com"), the URL will not

be clickable if the receiver of the message is reading the HTML part of

the message.

If he uses the rich text mode and inserts a link (with

URL plus describing text), the describing text will not be clickable if the

receiver of the message is reading the plain text part (because there

is no URL).

(There is only one working exception AFAIK: URL and describing text of the link have to be identical.)

Here's what I've found Martin:

If I have checked the option you mention above, it will transmit as underlined/clickable if I uncheck Rich text! If I forward the email then it doesn't matter whether Rich text is checked or not. Marc may have a point, but at least I can make it work now when I wish, even if the logic is somewhat puzzling. [*-)]

Thanks Martin and Marc.
