Can't open after crash
Thanks, Thomas .... Please, how do I see the CNM files to restore them individually? I was sending as attachments about 85 minutes of stereo wave files and got the white screen non-responding problem on open. I now have successful opening having, in Windows Explorer, created a new folder and dragged the entire HF9M16VH.CNM from right pane to left pane into it. Was this the correct method? Must I change folder view to: "show hidden files" in order to restore files individually?
Not at all sure what you are doing with the left pane and right pane dragging stuff but a copy from one new mail directory to the other new mail directory is all that is required.
My PC crashed (power went out) with PM open. Now, when I try to log in to the mailbox open at the time, I first get a message that the mailbox is locked by another process. When I continue, it gets to "opening new mail folder..." and hangs forever. I'd like to get past this...

I'm using PM 4.4 on XP.

 Thanks!

Move all of the *.CNM files out of the new mail directory and try again.  It should now open normally.  You can then put the messages back one at a time until you find the problem message.

It's probaby going to be a really large message.  If you are using content control then I'd recommend that you set a limit on the message size so you are not scanning these large files with encoded attachments.

1.    Use  Tools | Spam and content controls | Content control...

2.    Select and edit the control definition

3.    Select the "Message tests" tab.

4.    Enter 8000 in "Check at most this many bytes in each message"

Thanks. I'll try that, but it seems there are THOUSANDS of CNM files. The total of all files in that mailbox is 9,000+. Is this the only way? I can't imagine adding back several thousand files a few at a time...

Good grief, that's a disaster waiting to happen.  You can just open WinPMail and walk away.  Given enough time the program should be able to get through all the messages.

I highly recommend you get these 9000 messages out of the new mail folder.  Each time new mail is processed each of these files must be at least touched and these messages will  drag down the processing.

I'm reviving this thread because I think I'm having the same general problem: after a crash, PM starts to open and immediately goes into a seemingly endless processing cycle, right after signing in to my mail box. Watching CPU usage (it's an XP machine), PM is using basically all the CPU time, dipping up and down from maybe 60-70% to 95% plus. This has gone on for hours.

The last time, which was the original post in this thread, I used the "walk away" method suggested just above, and that was, fine, I think it only took half an hour or so. But this time, it starts processing immediately, and goes on and on...

In my description above, I wasn't clear. I have maybe 9K messages overall, but only a hundred or so at a time in the new mail folder.

Where there are lots of messages is in the Spamhalter folder, the Beyesian filter. I delete them regularly, but getting up to 2-3K in a couple of days is common, and it might've gotten past that recently. Could this be part of the start-up problem? If so, is there any way around that?

Thanks again!

Could be you are opening the new mail folder and downloading new mail on startup but generally this is not what causing this  sort of hang.  This does look like Pegasus Mail processing a huge file.  Does this also happen when there are no CNM files in the new mail directory?

This thread was most helpful today when I had the same problem. I created a temp folder, moved ALL the .cnm files to it and Peg opened smoothly and fast with an empty new mail folder. Then I went to the temp folder and deleted one or two of the most recent LARGE files. Moved the other .cnm's back and all is well again.  THANKS!!!

I ran into a like problem, and your clearing the Inbox messages as you suggested solved it.  Thanks

Although I have not crashed, I might as well have as PM will not clear mail on download although it is configured to do so. (Tick in box to clear after download) so all I am getting is the same downloads over and over so can;t access recent messages.  now I have doubled up mails downloading making the total to double .  How can I re-configure to stop this and get the mail cleared from host on download?

 Many thanks for any help

Thanks, Thomas .... Please, how do I see the CNM files to restore them individually? I was sending as attachments about 85 minutes of stereo wave files and got the white screen non-responding problem on open. I now have successful opening having, in Windows Explorer, created a new folder and dragged the entire HF9M16VH.CNM from right pane to left pane into it. Was this the correct method? Must I change folder view to: "show hidden files" in order to restore files individually?
