Pegasus 4.41 hangs on closing

After more troubleshooting, it appears to be a bug in the newest version of the idwPGP-Frontend plugin, (v 6.1.0.0. from 11/2007).  Michael is a great guy and I'm sure it will get fixed eventually. From what I've gathered most people don't experience this problem.  Just wanted to post this in case someone has a similar problem and comes looking for the answer...

Hello all. Kudos to David for making such a wonderful program. Have been using Pegasus since 1995!

Just rebuilt my laptop from scratch. After I installed Pegasus I copied over my old PMAIL folder. Everything was peachy then a new problem developed a day or two later. When I shut Pegasus down (clicking on upper right X), the inner window frame closes, leaving a gray window with frame only, which hangs there maybe 7 seconds or so before closing. The mouse and all other programs are available at this time. So it's not the like the system locks up.  I'm thinking maybe it's a rogue mail file that needs deleting from the directory... or??? Any ideas?

Thanks much!

Check that the deleted messages folder gets deleted on closing.  Maybe manually delete it to be sure this time.

Close WinPMail and then check the hierarch.pm for garbage in the end of the file.   Remove all the entries that have an indication the folder is not available.

Hey Thomas,

Thanks for the reply. The Delete folder was in fact deleting between sessions, and I looked inside hierarch.pm (I always forget that it's usually the culprit!) but it looked okay. There was one suspicious line near the end that I deleted, but the same behavior continued. So I went back and deleted the hierarch file all together, as I know Pegasus will generate a new one. Still no difference. Also glanced down the file directory to see if any file stood out, but nothing caught my eye... Hmmmm!

Just a note that I tried removing the CNM (new mail) files out of the PMAIL directory to see if one of them was the culprit. This had no effect.

The other things that are done on closing are to update the pmail.ini, state.pmj and folstate.pm.  In addition, if you are using IMAP4 it closes all of the IMAP4 folders.  The closing of IMAP4 can be a problem if you did a lot of deletes and you have a lot of purging going on.

Thanks, Thomas. I checked out the files you mentioned in notepad and all seems in order. I don't use IMAP4, but when I have seen Pegasus purge or compress folders after deleting large numbers of messages I usually get a status bar. IAC I haven't done any purging, but those were good thoughts.

I checked Google Newsgroups and couldn't find this exact problem, so I posted a message to the Pegasus newsgroup. When I discover the answer I will post it here for others, should someone else come across this behavior. In the meantime I'll keep checking back... ;)
