Pegasus damaged by AVG antivirus - need to repair

Thanks Greenman,

I'll give that a try.

Thanks Greenman,

I'll give that a try.

I have just upgraded to AVG Antivirus v8 which has a bug that completely deletes some "archive" files - apparently it classified some of the Pegasus Mail files as "archive" files and it has deleted TWO files from my mail database. They are supposed to be moved to AVG's quarantine area but the bug causes them to be irretrievably deleted.

The two files are:

D:\Pmail\MAIL\JOHN.PMM

D:\Pmail\MAIL\Copies to se.PMM

Pegasus still starts up but the "John" folder and the "Copies to Self" folder are missing. When I then sent an email the Copies to Self folder seemed to be re-created by Pegasus, but it only contains the copy of that one email that I've just sent.

I have backups of the Pegasus Mail tree (although a few weeks old!), and I'd like to use these to repair my Pegasus Mail.

Is it as simple as just copying the two .PMM files above into the MAIL folder?

Also, if there was several existing messages already in a folder and I wanted to MERGE it with a backup of that folder, so that the final folder contained all the messages from the backup PLUS the existing messages, how would I do that?

Incidentally, if anyone's interested in more info on teh AVG bug, thsi is one of the several threads about it on the AVG forums:

Hi

First of all, rename your backed up copy of John.pmm and Copies to se.pmm to john2.pmm and copies to se2pmm. From the same backup set, find the corresponding john.pmi and copies to se.pmi and rename them to john2.pmi and copies to se2.pmi. Copy both sets of files into the same folder that your mail data is stored in. Open Pegasus Mail, then move the emails from the latest to the earlier folders.

Any mails sent/received between your last backup and the deletion will have been lost, unless you have a copy online

I have upgraded both of my machines that run Pegasus and Mercury without any problems at all.
