Re-installing (updating) Pegasus

Good to hear you've got it sorted, but I'm at a loss to undestand how Kaspersky has caused this sort problem.

In an effort to fix my problem posted elsewhere ( http://community.pmail.com/forums/thread/9341.aspx )

I'm wondering how painful it would be to install the current version of Pegasus. I am currently running Version 4.21c.

Would the current release recognize/identify and use my current settings and folders, and give me the option of preserving them? That is what I hope. I need to preserve and re-use about 6 large folders, but the problem one ("Deleted" messages folder) could be discarded and start fresh.

Any comments appreciated.

Thanks,

Bill

Updating is a piece of cake, all you do is install v4.41 over v4.21c as an "Update" and nothing in your setup will be changed.  Of course if there is a problem in you setup then that's not going to be fixed with the update either.

Thanks Thomas...that sounds promising!

Can you confirm that my email folders (and their contents) will remain intact and be used by the new version that I install? I know you said the setup will be used, but not sure if that includes the folders, or not.

Thanks again,

Bill

I confirm that the folders will not be affected at all.  As long as you update there will be no affect.  If you install as new though the home and new mail directory location might be different in the new version so you would have to run pconfig.exe to reset to pointers to the old mail directories.

Got it, thank you sir!

I'll do a full backup first, then give it a whirl tonight, or tomorrow.

Just wanted to post an update on this issue....

I did "update" Pegasus to the current version, with no problem at all. It did indeed preserve and use all my settings and folders, thank goodness [:)]

Unfortunately, it did not immediately fix the existing/active "Deleted" folder which had some incorrect date indexing. So, I highlighted all the emails in that folder and deleted them, to allow for a fresh start. Nope, didnt work. Within about 20 emails it indexed one wrong again (date was placed out of sequence with the others).

Next, I really studied all the options and setting sin my Kaspersky Internet Security program. I could not find any options to specifically address email folders or programs, so I simply disabled all SPAM (only spam, not virus) scanning and its subsequent renaming/sorting/disposal.

So far so good. I have had this running for three "dates" (17th, 18th, 19th) so far and nothing has been placed out of sequence in my deleted folder. Unfortunately, I am dealing with hoardes of spam in my in-box, but I'll address that later. I only want to change one thing at a time.

Thank you Thomas and Paul for your help.  I'll update again, before too long.

Turn on the Spamhalter feature in Pegasus Mail and it should deal with all the unwanted spam.

Yes, I plan to turn on Spamhalter after I confirm that the date indexing is fixed.

First thing, first!  [;)]

Another update....

After a solid week of continuous use, I have 407 messages in my deleted folder. All deleted emails have been listed in the correct chronological order. So, it is clear to me that my Kaspersky Internet Security spam filter was causing the problem, not Pegasus.

I will now try to apply some Pegasus spam filtering, when I get the chance.
