How to create an automatic out of office reply?

Thanks Rolf,

Have picked that up too. This is a very helpful tool and your support has been fantastic, I thank you for all your contributions and hopefully you'll not have to hear from me again anytime soon!

Hi,

I'm am very new to using Mercury and have got a bit of a pickle. Currently I use Outlook, using IMAP, to retrieve my mail from the server. Normally if I am away for any period of time I would use the out of office assistant in Outlook to automatically send an out of office reply. I know there is away to setup a message on the server direct using areply.cfg, .kfl etc however this is not always convienant, especially if it's not a planned absense. Does anyone know of a way to do this through the Outlook client or know of a similar client in look and features as Outlook?

Any help would be enternally appreciated,

Thanks

It's quite simple if you have access to the server as all you have to do is a simple file rename.

To do this remotely you could use a small batch file which is triggered by a particular message by adding a filter to 'run a program'.

Lol, thanks for your reply, it sounds easy enough... though I have no idea how I would do that. I wouldn't rate myself as the sharpest. I can get access to the server. Could you talk me through both, which would be great!? :)

Thanks

If you can consider using a browser to set the out of office reply another way to do it would be to use the web interface available here:

It appears that v4.61 will be out within the next 24 hours.  This one does need some updates for this version since it can't seem to find the servers.

OOPS, I was running an older version.  The 1.0 version does pickup a number of the servers but does not see core, SMTP, POP3 and Poppass servers.

That was, as you can see, foreseen in the notes on the download page. It's however very difficult to make updates for software until it's been made available! ;)

Good point Rolf, that would be easiest!

Thanks Rolf,

This sounds promising, I will hopefully get a chance to try it tommorrow. One question that still remains a bit unclear to me is, is the tool a web interface that can only be run on the server to modify settings like out of office etc or is there a client portion that I run from my laptop etc to change the settings when I am unable to get to the server? Or does all my interaction need to take place on the server machine?

You can use it from any client that can access the mail server (or from the server itself if you should like to). It's a small HTTP server application that you connect to with your normal Internet browser.

Thomas kindly provided me with the release candidate of Mercury 4.61, so an updated version of the web interface is now available in the downloads section:

This is a very handy tool, indeed!

But we encounter one single problem at one of our cutomers: For two of the accounts the tool doesn't work.

They can log in, but only get an empty, white page. This also happens when logging in as admin and

selecting one of those two accounts in "Mailbox Tasks".

Any Idea, what could be the reason for this? Perhaps a too large number of mails, for those are

the two users whith the most mails (company owner and his secretary, both about 25.000 mails with

about 4 GB of data)?

For all other users the tools works fine.

P.S.: Happens with the new versions (from yesterday) as well.

Probably the amount of data that exceeds the limit for a 32 bit number. I've changed it to 64 bit and uploaded the new version here:

http://83.140.29.200/HTTPServer.zip

Let me know if it solves the problem!

Hi Rolf,

I finally managed to get time to put the add-on onto the server. I have ammended the http.ini file as suggested in the readme.txt and it appears to be happy. When I try to use the the html pages but it does not appear to be communicating with the server. Iv tried this from both on the server and my machine. Have I missed an obvious step or could I be having another issue?

Thanks

Craig

This should be fairly straightforward. In http.ini BindIP should be set to the IP number of your server, and WebRoot to the full path where the web directory is. You can change BindPort to some specific port number that you want to use if you want to. If you set it to 80 it will work like a standard web page from a browser, otherwise port has to be included in the URL (i.e. http:\\mymailserver:81). When the program is started, make sure "activate" is checked.

If it doesn't work after this there is presumably something blocking access, like the Windows firewall or an anti-virus program firewall. You can see if you managed to get as far as to the program by checking for activity in the log display.

Hope this helps!

/Rolf

Hi Rolf,

I have ammended the http.ini files with the appropriate details and run on server. It appears to be working and shows "Mercury settings Receilved: Mailbox directory, C:\Mercury\mail" etc etc. Then when I try to use any of the html pages to access the web services they do not seem to have any active code in them. I then had a further look into the html, files and it appears in the lines where it states "placeholder for server generated content, do not edit", it does not appear that there is any generated content, so none of the links etc are working.

Am i required to edit these pages myself? If so could I ask for some guidance as I am not hugely familiar with html?

My apologises for dragging out what appears to should have been an easy solution.

Craig

You can leave the html files as they are. They are templates, not complete html pages, and the real html page will be constructed on-the-fly by the server and sent to your browser.

Just point the browser to the server and make sure you use the same port as specified in the server program. For instance, if your server is called Mercury and you use port 81 you should connect to "http://mercury:81". If you are testing from the computer that is running the server program it would be "http://localhost:81". If you set the port to 80 you won't need to specify it in the browser, but then you can't run any other web server software on that computer.

Hi Rolf,

I have it working now thanks very much, sorry that took so long I do feel a tad daft now that it's working. Iv another question for you but... but don't feel obliged to answer as Iv hasseled you quite a lot! I am wondering if it is possible to offer different levels of access. For example the interface as it is is ideal for myself but for a collegue using the service I would rather not have them having the ability access anything more than the mailbox tasks. What would be the best way of doing this?

Regards

Craig

Good to hear it works! Only a user that logs in with the Postmaster account will see the server control stuff. All other users will just be able to manage their own mailbox.
