Recently I have had problems with mail being deleted from my inbox with no warning.

Running Outlook, Thunderbird as IMAP clients and Mercury as a service on Windows server 2003.

System has been unchanged for months but now I get a Fetch 96 error and all new emails are deleted from the inbox without a by your leave.

I am suspicious of Windows security updates from 16/8 but this problem is really bugging me.

Sorry about posting this in Pegasus as well but this was where I meant it to be.

Could the problem be a bad message? How do I find it?

Thanks, Guy

Probably just an out of sync local cache. (much more likely to occur if you have multi-access from different clients)

In Thunderbird, just do a reindex of the folder.

Last time I used Outlook the only way was to delete the .pst file relating to the IMAP account.

No, the CNM mail file is actually wiped from the MERCURY/MAIL/usr folder, completely without intervention or warning.

"Error 96". Cannot see anything in IMAP logging or verbose system messages.

Unloaded Server 2003 updates and seemed to be better, loaded and instantly zapped another unread message.

Presume you mean a session log, showing all activity with the client.

I would definitely suspect a client problem first (Mercury does nothing other than drop the .cnm in the maildrop, unless told to by the client)

If there is nothing there, maybe AV intervention?

Maybe run Filemon to see what process is deleting them.

well that was funny, have just bought a brother wireless printer and unwittingly gave it my mail user name setting it up. it was using pop3 and gobbling messages, presumably turning them into ozone or ghostly toner efflorescence.
