Pegasus Mail Suggestions
Circulation message editor window

Thank you Phons.

This is a very logical and structured feature. However, it seems to me people will use it only in exceptional circumstances.

Compared to the flexibility of a Send to several CC, you would need a process in which it is absolutely compulsory that everybody replies in that precise order... You should also be certain that no recipient will block the process by not opening his mailbox in due time, or not reading that message in due time...

Maybe in some legal approval processes, like a list of "Read and Approved". Or some hierarchical back-office decision process, the message then becoming a sort of mini-wiki...

And you would also need a situation when all users, without any exception, understand that they are handling a circulation message...

Worth keeping, anyway. But, due to its extremely rare use, shouldn't it be in the Special tab, instead of the top bar menu when you decide to start a new message? It seems to me a "Send attachment", that would lead to a new message but chosing the attachment first, would be at least a hundred times more used than "Send a circulation message".

Or, better, shouldn't it become some choice to make when you add recipients?

EDIT: By the way, I think that, compared to the benefit of starting a message immediately when clicking on New Message, all the items of that sub-menu in File -> New Message could be moved to later stages.

Now, I've never used circulation messages (don't know how many people do) but I noticed that the editor contains a button that only opens the Recently-Used Addresses list rather than the full Addressing Centre dialog, which of course allows access to one's address books.

Probably not important but I thought I'd point it out.

Can I ask what you call a circulation message exactly? I have a faint idea but I'm not sure.

You can find it in Pegasus Mail under File - New message - Circulation message

This is what the the Help says about
Circulation messages

See also: Sending mail messages

A circulation message is a specialised form of mail message where instead of being sent to all the addressees you enter, the message is sent to each recipient in turn and then automatically forwarded onto the next recipient when he or she has finished with it.

Each recipient can opt to add comments to the message and when it leaves the final recipient, it is automatically returned to the original sender. Circulation messages are an extremely easy and powerful way of passing ideas around for comment and discussion between multiple people.

To start a circulation message, choose Circulation message from the New message submenu of the File menu. This will open a message editor window that looks and behaves in almost exactly the same way as a regular message editor. You can enter any text you wish in the message, including formatted text, and you can add attachments to the message as well.

When you select the addresses through which the message is to be circulated, remember that the message passes to each person in order, so if there are people who need to see the message more urgently than others, enter their addresses at the start of thelist. You can use a distribution list if you wish - the message will be circulated using the order of addresses in the list.

You cannot specify a CC or BCC address with a circulation message, since this would interfere with the circulation process. When the message is sent, a small informational section is attached to your message giving instructions to the recipients.

If you request confirmation of reading for a circulation message, then you will receive confirmation when the message is opened by each recipient, and also a separate confirmation when each recipient forwards the message to the next recipient. This allows you to track the progress of the message as it circulates.
