Phons van Oploo

you are my new resident genius! i had my default printer pointing to a networked laptop, my other one... so i set it to a printer i had for this one...and it worked!!!!! it also helped my graphic creation program..it was sluggish when i needed to resize an image.

btw-fixed my letter l problem...deleted the keyboard driver, restarted, and let it reinstall itself.  lllllllllllllllLLLLLLL's for everyone. it was like losing a pinkie finger.

really hate these little boxes sometimes. now i just gotta figure out how to fix the base from getting so hot!  get up the courage to dissasemble it, give it a cleanin.

thanks again!!

hi there, am having laptop problems, and need to back up all data just in case.

In Pegasus, when i go to

messages/save messages to disk...

and click extract them to a single file,

it opens the export box, to let me name the file, but it is saving them as 'all fies' with no extension.

I figure they need some sort of extension, but don't know what it is.

it saved them i guess, but won't know if it works til after i reinstall windows...

i know it's a dumb question, thanks for all help

Hello Kim,

Probably you better can copy the whole folder C:\PMAIL (default) to your backup medium. After reinstalling Windows you copy the C:\PMAIL back to your harddisk.

1.  Use Help | About Pegasus Mail | Info and note all the
directories.  This is the directory structure you want to
    backup.

2.  Use the Windows backup program to backup the entire
structure. In the multiuser made this means you'll have to
backup the top level structure to get all the user
directories. You can simply ZIP these directories to a
CDROM and restore to the same drive.

3.  Restore this to the computer

You are saving the program and files so all that is needed is to restore and create a new shortcut if you have to re-build the laptop.

thanks for both replies,

so to confirm this, as I'm fairly inept at most things computer...

one of the (many) issues with the laptop, is that Pegasus is running very slow opening, viewing attachments, replying, etc...as are a few other programs, no, it's not a memory issue...

and wanted to reinstall Pegasus from scratch when i reformat Windows...or worst case scenario, i have another laptop to transfer the messages too.

I have an externa hard drive to back up to...if i copy C:/pmail, or wherever the folder is...will that copy the Pegasus program too, or just the emails i need to save....that's why i thought it woud be better to simply export the messages themselves.

sorry for spelling...the letter L is one the things not working, on my keyboard...so i'm copy/pasting them in...but of course wi  miss a coupe here and there, see what i mean? kinda ike code. haha

thanks for all hep

It will copy both the program and data and that's exactly what to want to transfer.  You can just copy this to the new computer and run the program as long as you maintain the drive letter.

Indeed, if you copy C:/PMAIL that will copy the Pegasus Mail program (which is in C:\PMAIL\Programs\) too.

Slow running of Pegasus Mail can has to do when there is no printer installed on the laptop or the laptop points to a printer that is not available. To solve install a generic printer and set it as default. That might be the solution for this problem.

Hi Phons

Better than a generic printer you can install pdfCreator, it's very useful (much more that a generic printer wich doesn't exist).

Regards
