Queued mail and Mail Delevery failure because of Invalid Message file

I just fixed a similar problem, a queued message kept re-appearing after I tried to send it or delete it.  Unlike the rest of this thread it was not an empty message, and making it stranger yet it was addressed to me. I found one .pmx file {no .pmo or .pmw} that had some of the same message content, and deleted it, but it just re-appeared at next program startup.  I kept trying the same thing and , lo and behold, the result was the same every time!

Finally I searched my New mail and Main folders for a couple of words of the message content and found the same message in my New mail folder {it had not been read or forwarded} and I deleted it from there.  When I looked in Queued mail again it was gone, and has stayed gone.

Explain that.

I have PM 4.41 and WIN XP installed. I sent an message with 2 attachments and the program froze. After that there has been a permanently queued message and any other message that I try to send comes back with a message that says "Delivery has failed on the enclosed message for the following reasons reported either by the mail delivery system on the mail relay host or by the local TCP/IP transport module:
*** Invalid message file - no '$$' signature ***    WinPMail has encountered a file which is not properly formatted for sending via its built-in SMTP transport (valid files start with the characters '$$' on a line of their own). This error is
usually the result of running out of disk space in the volume containing your home mailbox. The message cannot be sent."

The final form in the queue manager is empty, but I have no empty (0KB) files in my user directory, so the standard option for eliminating the queued message does'nt work. I can download messages from other people, but for sending my own, I have to use my webmail.

 Many thanks, Mary Jo

1.  Use Help | About Pegasus Mail | Info to locate the HOME mail directory.

2.  Use File Manager or Explorer and go to this directory and open any PMO, PMX and PMW files with Notepad.  The "final form" is the PMX so that is where I would start and the file should be quite large with the two encoded attachments.

I do not know why it would stop you from sending other message though.

Many thanks. I did find the big PMX file and couldn't open it with note pad, it froze again. I was able to delete the PMX after killing the win-32 process that was still running inspite of having shut down Pegasus.

And you are correct, the other mails sent did reach destination. So the mail delivery failure was always from this "stuck" message in the queue.

Muchísimas gracias!

Thanks for this - same thing happened to me and I had a 'stuck' empty message in the queue - deleting the empty file cured it.

I need some help with this as I am also getting this exact error message from a few users.  Although they are still able to send mail.  It's just an annoyance for them really.

The first user has five 1KB .PMO files, but no .PMX, or .PMW in their folder.  There are eight or so .PNX files though.

Using WinXP, and version 4.5 but this was first seen in v4.41 for certain.
