Suddenly - all new mail is duplicated

I am getting a duplicate copy of every new mail message.

Even if I move a message from another folder to
the new mail folder I get a duplicate

I am using version 4.41 (win 32)

Some more information.

1. When I delete messages they don't immediately disappear.
Only later when I re-open the new folder

2. If I have the new folder open and click on
"Open or rescan your new folder"

a new empty message is created with a green dot on the side

3. If, before reading a duplicate pair, I delete
one of them the other then becomes an empty message

Are you using a real-time (on-access) anti-virus scanner?

Try turning it off for a while, or exclude the newmail directory, and see of that removes the problem.

I'm not sure if I'm running an anti-virus scanner

I have AVG but my ZoneAlarm  says there is no anti virus
running on my computer.

But I've not made any change to my system prior to this problem.

Can you explain please what you mean by 'exclude the newmail directory'

Thanks
Harvey

Ah - I have found the answer

I clicked on AVG and could get no response.

Maybe it was 'corrupted'.

So I deinstalled it.

Now everything works OK

I forgot to say - Thanks for suggesting it might
be the anti-virus scanner

Glad you got it sorted. :)

Anti-virus programs can interfere with Pegasus Mail when they do continuous background scanning of files, and it's best to change their configuration to exclude the PM directories from scans.  Otherwise you can get some strange effects - like the empty messages you reported.

I've heard some good reports about AVG, but no recent experience of Zone Alarm

I've not had any problem with AVG in the past.

When I went to check the settings I could not even get it to
load so it must have somehow 'gone down'

I have now reinstalled it and everything is fine.

I'm puzzled by your suggestion to exclude the PM directories
from AVG (if I have understood properly)

This would mean that incoming mail is not being checked for
viruses - which I would have thought is one of the key
reasons for having AVG

AVG can work in a 'proxy' mode, where all incoming messages from your mailserver are scanned as they are delivered.  This works fine with PM - it's only the scanning while messages are being handled internally that seems to cause a problem.

Others use Martin Ireland's Virscan extension to scan messages when needed - in the Download section of this website http://community.pmail.com/files/folders/pegadd/entry8416.aspx
