Well I'll be a monkey's uncle... I've been using Pegasus since v3 and have never seen this error before. I'd like to understand what's happening and why. You know, I always get excited when I have something new come up in Pegasus because it means I can learn more about it. I'm funny that way. I guess there are two kinds of people: those who just want to know how to fix things when they go wrong, and those who want to know why it went wrong. I am most certainly in the latter category. If anyone has a few moments and a bit of patience to help, I'd really appreciate it.
Months ago, I installed Pegasus on three of my XP Home computers, then pointed pmail.cfg and the shortcut on each computer to open mailboxes from a main "server" computer through XP Home network. Result: all machines could log in to the Pegasus same user accounts and mailboxes. I've had this running for many, many months flawlessly.
This weekend I reformatted all computers and set up the above system in (what I thought was) exactly the same way. However, now I get an error happening in some of the user accounts. (Obviously, I've done something different but I know not what!)
When I try to send email I get this error message: "SMFSEND has reported error 255 while attempting to deliver your message." I click "ok" button, and a second error message comes up: "WinPMail has failed removing a temporary directory created for the MHS SMFSEND utility. It will remain in existence until you delete it manually." So off I went searching for a directory that might have something to do with this, but I haven't found anything.
What is MHS SMFSEND? Why would these messages appear? What might I have done to cause this?
I've searched these forums and had no luck, so I'm sending this message. I'll keep looking, but if anyone has any help for me, that would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Edited to add: I checked my SMTP settings and they are set correctly, as per this post: http://community.pmail.com/forums/post/7218.aspx
Edited for the second time to add (yeesh!): On a whimsy, I went through the SMTP settings and tried checking "Use in preference of LAN mailer for Internet mail" and the mail is now sending. Hmm. I still want to understand how and why I got the error though. In my first setup months ago, I did not check this option and it worked just fine.
