Password on Entry

I've just copied across my whole PC PMAIL folder (while tempoarily renaming the one on my laptop).

And on my laptop I am no longer being asked for my pop3 password on entry - so guess it must be a 'feature' of the new vesion.

I can see the point if each pop3 has a different user/password authorisation but it would be nice to have a 'one password fits all' flag at some point in the future.

In the meantime I'll try to revert the version on my laptop to the one on my PC.

Thanks for listening. :-)

Hi,

on older PC I have pmail (4.31) with multiple users and multiple identies in one.

on new laptop I've downloaded lastest version (4.41) with only one user with multiple identies.

The identities on both are all from the same pop3 mailbox with email rootname so have the same password.

On the PC when I enter userid I am given a single password box to enter which seems to feed all the pop3 identities.

On the Laptop I am not offered a password  on entry but have to enter password for all identiies when checking all the boxes. There are about 10 identities so it is rather annoying at the moment.

Any ideas welcome [:)]

Hi Mad,

Take a look at Tools - Internet options... tab Receiving (POP3) if there is a mark before 'When checking for mail, perform checks for all identities'.

Are you sure you are using the same POP3 setup for all users?  Got to the POP3 setup and select "ADD" to see if you only have one used by all or a separate one used by each identity.

Sorry I didn't make it clear.

There are different pop3 identities but each have the same root email eg

pop3id1@myemail.provider.co.uk

pop3id2@myemail.provider.co.uk

etc.

each is accessed from the same email box that relates to myemail.provider.co.uk - it's the way my provider allows my to have as many email addresses as I like from one email box. Sorry it's not easy to explain.

Have you entered the password in the POP3 setup file?

Not sure what you mean...

if it's the space under the username on each pop3 Id..

 1) I didn't do that on my PC and it asked for one password on startup, so I don't knwo why the set up on laptop should be different.

Both run XP.

2) It gives some protection against unknowns downloading my email

3) it reminds me of the password of my mailbox in case I forget!!

No answer has appeared for this. If it helps the PC prompts on startup of Pegagsus is titled 'Pop3 Password'

I can be prompted once yet I don't have a password set on all my individual pop3 definitions.

Yet I can't get my laptop to do the same. [:'(]

If all the addresses are aliases for one maildrop, do you not need only one pop3 definition?

My husband also has email addresses in the same mailbox and accesses them on a different PC.

I just don't know why the PC askes for one password at startup which then feeds the passwords of all the pop3 ids and the one on my laptop doesn't do this now it's running the newest version of Pegasus.

Can I download an older version of Pegasus and see if that solves the pblem?
