Setting up a default mailbox in Mercury

Thomas;

Thank you.  While it took a bit to set up this is going to work well for the time being.  Eventually we will turn off acceptance of email for invalid local addresses, but for now this is the answer I was looking for.

Thank you for your help,

Brad Johnson

I have checked the box to "Accept mail for invalid local addressess".  When the server receives an email with an invalid local address I would like it to deliver the message to a default local mailbox.  I have been unable to figure out how to do this.  Is this possible?  And if so, how do I make it happen?

Thanks,

If receiving via MercuryD these go to the "Default" user if set otherwise they are discarded.  If receiving via MercuryS then the bounce message is sent from Mercury core rather than MercuryS, actually not a good thing since you are bouncing spam to a faked user address.

The only way to make this happen when receiving via MercuryS is to change the domain to a domain account and setup a different domain for all known local users. You then alias all of the known users from user@domain.com to user@local.domain.com and all of the unknown user mail goes to the domain account.  It's a real pain in the rear to manage unless you only have a few non-changing users. I simply refuse all unknown addresses at the MercuryS server and let the SMTP mail system handle it.

With this option checked messages to an invalid local address will be received by MercuryS instead of rejected. Mercury core will then copy the message to the admin accountx, and an error notification will be sent to the sender of the message. You can't set another local mailbox to receive the copy, though, it will always go to admin.
