I have checked the box to "Accept mail for invalid local addressess".
When the server receives an email with an invalid local address I would
like it to deliver the message to a default local mailbox. I have been
unable to figure out how to do this. Is this possible? And if so, how
do I make it happen?
If receiving via MercuryD these go to the "Default" user if set otherwise they are discarded. If receiving via MercuryS then the bounce message is sent from Mercury core rather than MercuryS, actually not a good thing since you are bouncing spam to a faked user address.
The only way to make this happen when receiving via MercuryS is to change the domain to a domain account and setup a different domain for all known local users. You then alias all of the known users from user@domain.com to user@local.domain.com and all of the unknown user mail goes to the domain account. It's a real pain in the rear to manage unless you only have a few non-changing users. I simply refuse all unknown addresses at the MercuryS server and let the SMTP mail system handle it.
