help - currupted New Mail folder

Well, duh. Was not looking in the right place, I finally found it, did what you suggested and got rid of the offending email. I also emailed the person who forwarded it and many others to me and told her to stop.<g> thanks for your help.</g>

Hi All,

I've been using Pegasus Mail for 11 or 12 years and have never had this problem. I have over 1700 folders and 10GB of mail and really don't want to start over with a fresh installation.

Somehow or other, my New Mail folder has become corrupted. Everytime it is polled for refresh, an invalid/corrup message appears. I set Pegasus to refresh new mail every -1 seconds, which sort of helped. Now I only see the problem when I manually refresh (ctrl-w) or after new mail shows up after a POP3 download.

Does anybody know how to fix the New Mail folder without reinstalling?

Thanks,

Ted

The New Mail folder is not actually a folder in the Pegasus Mail sense. It is a directory that collects individual messages and stores them as files with names that end in .CNM.    The location of this directory can be found on your system by clicking the menu Help/About and then clicking the Info button.

To solve your problem, move all the .CNM files to another directory, and restart Pegasus Mail. It should start up normally, with folders appearing correctly. Then you can copy back the .CNM files one at a time and refresh the NewMail list, until you get the crash. Now you have identified the broken message you can copy back any outstanding .CNM files.

Martin,

Thanks so much! I was going crazy with that. It's working beautifully now. The only thing that would make Pegasus Mail better is if it were Open Source and ran on Linux.

Best regards,

Ted

I found this message when looking for a solution to a similar problem. Tried what you suggested above, and when I try to open the New Mail directory, I get a flash of black, it clicks and won't open. I know the problem email, but I can't even delete it from the program. Someone forwarded a message to me that Pegasus says "exceeded max lines per window limit".

When I click on delete, I get the "wait" cursor, but it sits there forever, like the program is not responding. Since it's the first email in the new mail folder, it automatically tries to open when I oppen the program.

I don't want to lose the other messages I have in the new mail folder, or my contact list by deleting and reinstalling the program. Any suggestions?

As per the previous post in this thread, remove all CNM filetype files from the New Mail directory (Pegasus Mail should be closed first). You can then delete the file that is causing the problem, and restart Pegasus Mail. All should be well now.

The problem is that I can't open the new mail directory. It starts to open, then goes "click" and stops.
