Because you created the new identity based on the other identity. Many times the identity does not need a different internet setup and even if you do it's a lot easier to change the current setup than to go through and enter all new data.

I'm trying to use two different identities with PMail 4.41, but I cannot see how to change SMTP options in Tools --> Internet Options.

The problem is this: when I switch between the identities I need to change identification parameters in SMTP Authentication (Security tab), i.e. user ID and password. But they do not change and I have to modify manually every time: there is a way to do it automatically?

You can setup completely different email address, POP collecting details, SMTP sending details under each identity that will change automatically when you switch identities.

The only issue I know of with sending is that any messages in the queue will all be sent with your current identity.  If you switch frequently, make sure you send messages first.

Well, I often use the same identity, but sometimes I have to send mail with other accounts... the problem is I have to change every time, manually, the SMTP login information, because if I switch to another identy from default one, that options does not change. Name, email address, and other thing change, but not SMTP login information.

For example:

First identitiy (default one):

email address: mail1@mail.com

Name Jabberwock

SMTP login name: jabberwock

SMTP login password: jabberwock

Second identity:

email address: mail2@mail.com

Name Jabber55

SMTP login name: jabber55

SMTP login password: jabber55

email address: mail2@mail.com

Name Jabber55

SMTP login name: jabberwock

SMTP login password: jabberwock

I am doing something wrong?

Do you have anti-virus proxying your outgoing mail?  It may not be able to change the destination.

Wait, if I change to the second identity I have  to change manually the SMTP settings and all works! But if I change again to default identity, the SMTP settings doesn't change again: PMail use the one I set manually during the first switch (i.e. the second identity settings).

In other words, PMail uses only the settings I set manually and does not change them when I switch between two identities: it always uses the last set one.

I try to explain the situation with another example:

1st identity:

SMTP login name: jabber55

SMTP login password: jabber55

2nd identity:

SMTP login name: jabberwock

SMTP login password: jabberwock

If I switch to second from first:

SMTP login name: jabber55

SMTP login password: jabber55

So I have to modify the settings manually in this way:

SMTP login name: jabberwock

SMTP login password: jabberwock

After I send the mail (or I restart PMail), I return to first identity and I have this SMTP settings:

SMTP login name: jabberwock

SMTP login password: jabberwock

They are the last used, but they are not the one of the first identity (the identity I'm using "now"), so I have to change them again in this way:

SMTP login name: jabber55

SMTP login password: jabber55

(Start again if I use the second identity)

This is what I have to do everytime.

I have not any antivirus on outgoing/incoming mails: I use Avira Personal Edition.

Are you sure you are not simply changing the same  SMTP configuration for both identities?  Did you actually create a new SMTP setup for the second identity?

If yuo are using the same SMTP setup for both identities then you are not really changing how the mail is sent at all.  You must use a separate SMTP setup if you want to use a different SMTP server.

Got to Tools | Internet options | (Sending) SMTP, hit the "Add" button and create a new SMTP setup for the second identity.
