Pegasus IMAP support
If I replicate my existing folder structure on the IMAP server, will my existing mail filters continue to work, will I have to modify them or can I just not use filters on IMAP mail?
You can use filters but you have to define them differently.

You define them as 'general rule sets' (the same filters are available) and attach them to the folders as 'on open' or 'on close'.  If you are using preview mode, the 'on open' work as soon as you select the folder, but 'on close' only work when you specifically open the folder and then close it.
As for settings, is it just a case of disabling my existing POP3 hosts (across all my identities), and ensuring that the IMAP server is set to connect automatically on startup?
yes
Is there any way to synchronise mail from the IMAP server down locally for caching/speed/offline work?
Yes, PMail caches folders, and you have quite a lot of control over it, but offline working isn't really an option with IMAP.

Hi all,
I've been using Pegasus as my primary email client for about 10 years now.  I've got all my mail for that time stored and currently POP my mail down to it.  However, I've been considering switching to an IMAP-based solution and would like to get some indication about how good Pegasus' support for IMAP is.  Certainly some time ago, I remember reading that it wasn't great, but I'd like to know how things have changed with v4.41.

Also, do people have advice on switching Pegasus from being a POP-focussed client to IMAP-focussed client?  Changing settings, migrating mail etc?

Thanks,
Raj.

I use IMAP quite a bit and have few problems with it.  Do you have a chance to try it out first?

You aren't forced to migrate mail, as you still retain your local folders.  A lot of the experience you get depends on the IMAP server and connection to it - the faster the better of course.  Also, if you intend keeping mail on the server, the storage charges and backup schedule should be checked.

So much of the change will vary based on how you intend to use it and your reasons for moving from POP.

My main reasons for moving are so that someone else can worry about backing up my mail and so that I can have all of my mail available from wherever I am, so I would want to migrate (or at least copy) my local folders to the IMAP server.

I'm considering using Google Apps for Domains and switching my mx record away from my domain provider to them, which will also give me all the storage in the world (well, 7.something gb at the moment).

It will also give Google access to all your mail, so they can 'advertise' to you better [:P]

Not that it really matters, as Google knows all, anyway.

Convenience of access is a big factor then.

There's no automatic way of uploading your messages - it's just a one-off task.

With your gmail address you could try it out first to see if it works OK for you.

As for settings, is it just a case of disabling my existing POP3 hosts (across all my identities), and ensuring that the IMAP server is set to connect automatically on startup?  Is there any way to synchronise mail from the IMAP server down locally for caching/speed/offline work?
