Pmail crash renders folders unreadable...

Thomas,

Thanks very much,  I will try the copy.  Move gives me weird GUI graphic distortions, a little message box pops up, and also the system freezes or moves VERY slow.

It's good to finally have a face to go with your name.

I am very grateful to you for your hard work.  I have been using p-mail and Mercury since 1999 when we first computerized our offices and had our first netware servers installed.  Money was tight and Mercury/Pmail fit the bill.  Not only did they fit the bill, they have performed so well that we still have them in use today!

Hats off to you sir!

I also really like this community, was this created using any type of canned code?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi,

Upgraded to Pmail 4.4.  Seemed to be working fine.  I try to move 9000 messages from a folder that was receiving e-mail via filter back to the New Mail folder.

Wow, error city says a problem has occured to restore folder from backup and gave me name of files.

So, I go and restore just he PMM and PMI files for this folder.  Open Pmail.  Nothing.  Shows the folder, but no e-mails are in it!  I look at it in the directory, and its large so the origianl still has something in it.

Now I go and open pmail and check the folder properties, it is giving me another file name, not the original!

Wow!

Next, I go and restore the entire PMAIL directory from 3 days ago that should be fine.  It's not, still no files in folder!

How do I get the messages back?

 Thanks,

Mark

Hi, I think I figured it out.

I renamed the new PMM and PMI to *.old, then I renamed the orginals that I restored to the new file names.  They show up now when I open p-mail.  However, I still need to move them and this seems like it could be problematic.

Are there any known problems with moving a large volume of files from one folder to another in v.4.4?

Thanks,

Mark

None that I know of and I do this quite often with both Netware and Windows setups.  That said, my experience with Windows systems tells me to use copy instead of move.  I can always recover from a copy action but if there is a crash during a move then data can be lost.  ;-)
