imap access to folders

I use Pegasus Mail on XP and Vista to access the mailboxes stored on the nas.  I want to be able to get a webmail like interface running on the nas (ideally php, as a webserver and php are available for the nas) to allow off-site access the pmm files.  It would not really need to be a full webmail client, and r/o access to the folders would be enough.

Hi,

Does anybody know of an existing tool that will allow web access to .pmm folders.  I see that mecury has an imap server, but that won't work for me as I don't run a windows box.  I have my mailbox on a NAS (which runs linux, lighthttpd and php are available for it too), and would like to get webmail like access to my folders.  Full webmail would not be necessary (but nice), r/o access would suffice.  All I have found when searching are tools (usually scripts) to convert .pmm files to another format.  But converting them to another format is not what I want - I have used pegasus since about 1994 and am not going to change mail client.  I read on the development blog that MailStore is being worked on.  Is there any information on this?  I have had a few glitches over the years, particularly with hierarch.pm, but do really like the access that the .txt format of .pmms allows you.

thanks

lu

What about running Mercury on your computer and accessing the mailboxes on the NAS?  You'll have to allow port 143 through your firewall to the windows box.  Otherwise, remote access to your version of PMail with RDP/VNC etc.

I've done both - it depends on your setup and needs.

Where are you running to run Pegasus Mail?  You can run Mercury/32 on the same system looking at the same mail store to provide IMAP4 access to the data.  You can then either access the data via port 143 or setup SquirrelMail or similar webmail service to get at is via port 80.  That said Mercury/32 can also run on the Linux system via Wine. I'm doing that right now with my Ubuntu system.

The problem with running mecury is that I would either need to run a windows box as well as the nas (which I want to avoid) or as Thomas said, run it using Wine.  But the nas is a low power/low memory device, there is no way it could run ubuntu or a full distrib.  I like the ideal of Squrrelmail (and that would probably run on the nas), but I need something that will parse and serve up .pmms on the nas.  The imap client of squrrelmail wouldn't have anything to connect to....

I'm confused, what are you using to run WinPMail?
