It does not really make any difference what the NAS runs (the first ones were Netware) since the program will actually be running on the windows box.  The NAS is just for file storage just like any other drive.  You are installing to the NAS server from a windows system.  If all of the systems use the same drive letter for the NAS drive then you can make this work a lot easier on the Vista systems as well.

Hi, I'm Tracy, I'm new here...  been running Pegasus for donkey's yonks but always in stand-alone mode (with several users) despite having had a network for several years.  We've just got a QNAP NAS box that I'd like to use to hold the mailbox folders so that it doesn't matter which computer I use, but it's not obvious what I have to do to set this up.  I guess I'm asking for a hand-holding walk-through of how to go about this, I have 2 existing installations of Pegasus and 1 puter awaiting installation. all running Vista if that makes a difference.

The Vista makes a lot of difference since you cannot run pconfig.exe  This would be quite easy if vista was not involved since all you would have to do is copy one whole Pegasus Mail setup to the NAS box and run from there with only a shortcut on the three computers.  Since I do not have Vista I'm not too sure if I even have a workaround.

1.  Install WinPmail in the multiuser mode on the NAS drive.  Use drive:\pmail
    for the program; use the UNC \\server\volume\pmail\mail for the mail directories.

2.  Copy you existing mail folders from one of existing systems to the \\server\volume\pmail\mail\<user name> directories.  
 
3.  Go to the remote workstations and install a shortcut to the common
    program.

The remote workstation should now look to the NAS box for the mail.  Make sure you are doing a copy and not a move since Vista may break this setup in any number of ways.
