For some reason the index got messed up.  You can upgrade to PB1 where there is a re-index function or you can extract the addressbook and re-import to rebuild the index.  As to why, I really do not know but I suspect you have something (a-v software) interfering with WinPMail access to it's files.

Hi all,

   My Pmail address book is giving me  fits.  It shows duplicates of many addresses and when I select addresses I sometimes end up with a totally unrelated address.  If I edit the duplicate addresses, one will be the correct address and the other will be something different.  If I then save the wrong address, it ends up being a real (not just indexed) version of, not the original address, but the address I saw when I opened it.  That leaves me with two problems:

    1. I now have to delete the second address.

    2. I sometimes find that a totally unrelated third address has been deleted from my address book.

   In the past when I had this problem I discovered the culprit was leaving the address book open when I closed Pmail.  That is not the case this time around.  I tried closing Pmail and re-opening it.  I tried going in as a different user and then switching users.  I tried removing the pm! file (the index) to see if Pmail would reindex the address book.  This didn't work as I could then see NO addresses at all.

         Is there a way to reindex a Pmail address book? 

   I think the index, itself, is corrupt but the book is OK (other than the addresses I accidently deleted when I was trying to get things to work again).  My last backup was from before Christmas and I've made quite a few changes this past week.  I may end up restoring my backup, but I'd really like a solution to this problem as it happens far too often.  In fact, it happens often enough that I have seriously considered abandoning Pmail.  The only thing that keeps me from doing so is that I really don't like Outlook all that much, can't really afford to use Notes, and don't have much experience with anything else.

If you upgrade to the PB1 version of WinPMail you will have the option to re-index the addressbook.

Thanks for the response.  Is the PB1 pretty stable at this point?

I consider irt perfectly stable, I've been using it for months in a production environment.

OK.  I'll upgrade when I get a chance.  Unfortunately, upon further examination, I think my address book is toast.  I'll have to fall back to the backup I made a month ago and hope I can remember any changes made since then.
