A Serious Error has Occured... Use a Undelete Program...

Bravo!  Pegasus is up and running again.  When I found the .PMM files I also found the .CNM files - no idea why they didn't turn up earlier.  At any rate, I created a temp folder and moved all files of both extensions into it, and opened the program.  Oddly, it seems that I have lost the sub-folders I created but all files seem to have ended up in the Main folder.  By the way, my path was C:\(my computer stuff)\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\MAIL.

Cheers,

 Rob

Hello,

While I'm still kicking myself, maybe someone can help me...

I received a error message saying that a Serious Error has Occured while compressing the Junk or suspicious mail folder.

Well, not having a undelete program, I unwisely restarted PMail. (V4.4) Will it seemed to recreate the Junk or suspicious mail folder without any of my old messages.

I then found and downloaded a undelete program and found in ...local settings\temp directory two files that I think are the .PMM and .PMI files that used to be my

Junk or suspicious mail folder.   When looking in the PMAIL folder, I find junk.pmm and junk.pmi in two directories.   PMAIL\MAIL\ADMIN and \DEFAULTS...

Can/Where should the 'live' junk files live ??   Can I recover these temp files and get my messages back ?  The folder is called Junk, but my messages were not Junk... <grin>

I'm open to any suggestions or ideas.

 Thanks !!

Hi - I have been having the same problem since about the time the notice above was issued.  Today, the program crashed.  It hung up when I moved from the Junk folder back to the Main folder.  I shut it down, as I have done many times before, but this time the program won't open properly.  The frame seems to be there, and the message in the bottom left says "applying mail filtering rules" but the screen doesn't change - it just hangs and a note at the top says "program not responding".  I rebooted my computer, same deal.  I went to the Pegasus site and downloaded the program again (v4.4) but still it won't open.  I'm tempted to delete the program and reload but can't afford to lose all of the email messages I have.  I've done a virus scan and admail scan but nothing shows up.  Any suggestions?

 Thanks!

Rob

Move all of the *.CNM files out of the new mail directory and try again.  It should now open normally.  You can then put the messages back one at a time until you find the problem message.

It's probably going to be a really large message.  If you are using content control then I'd recommend that you set a limit on the message size so you are not scanning these large files with encoded attachments.

1.    Use  Tools | Spam and content controls | Content control...

2.    Select and edit the control definition

3.    Select the "Message tests" tab.

4.    Enter 8000 in "Check at most this many bytes in each message"

Thanks - be forewarned that you're dealing with a non-technical person!  I've searched my drive for *.CNM files and have come up blank.  Can you provide a path for me to follow?

Sorry, no I cannot.  Can you find *.PMM files?  They are in the home mail directory and that is normally the same as the new mail directory.
