Thanks Rolf, that worked great.

Can anyone tell me or point me in the correct direction to restore mail from a back up after re-loading the Mercury mail server? A hard drive failure forced me to

re-load the server and I had a back of the user mail folders but not the entire Mercury directory.

Restoring the mail is as simple as copying back the files from the backup to the right directory, and making sure that newmail_path in mercury.ini points to that directory. Mercury's user list (pmail.usr) is in the mail directory so it should have been backed up as well.

You will need to create new aliases, rules etc to replace the ones you might have had before the crash, though.

Rolf,

Is there any way to combine (import?) the old mail to merge it with any new mail that may have come in since I re-loaded the server softwrae?

.CNM files in the user mail directories should have received unique names so just move the restored files to the correct directory. If there should be a name collision you can change the name of one of the files manually. You may need to remove any .CAC files (cache files) in the mailbox directories to make the messages visible from mail clients.

If you use IMAP and there are folders with messages in both new and restored mail it will be more complicated, so let's hope that's not the case.

Thanks for the reply.

It is an IMAP set up with both old and new mail but there is only one folder that I need to restore mail from. Can you walk me though how to do that?

Thanks,

Curt

You will need to use IMAP for this. Create a temporary account and restore the backup from the original account there. Then connect with your email client to both accounts and move messages to the right location. When this is done you can delete the temporary account.
