Reverse Sort Order

No you are not dense. I was.

Your can order a sorting by dates, but your problem is the position of the scrolling bar, and the first lines you see when the folder is opened. I understand now.

Forgive me if this is something very obvious. I would like to:

  1. Sort my messages so that the newest messages are at the bottom. This is easy; I select "Sort by date" and "Sort in reverse order."
  2. Open folders to the newest messages. With the options above, this means scrolling down to the end of the message list. I cannot figure out how to make Pegasus do this.

It seems like my options are to either deal with reading newest messages on top, which I wouldn't prefer, or scrolling down through the whole list every time I select a folder.

What am I missing?

Thanks.

Not sure you are missing anything.  The new messages are going to sort to the bottom using the options you have selected when the folder is opened unless you also select the option to sort the unread messages to the top.

I personally use the "Thread" option that sorts by subject in reverse order so that I see the answers before the questions in any folder listing.  I also have added a button to the toolbar so that i can re-sort by thread by simple hitting the button instead of used the CTRL+Click on the subject bar.

Thanks.

This is too bad. Every other mail client I've used (Sylpheed, TheBat!, Mulberry, Evolution, Thunderbird) automatically scrolls the display to show the newest messages (read or not) by default, whether the list is sorted top to bottom or bottom to top.

Thanks anyway,

Eric

Huh?  I've used all of these (and currently have Sylpheed, Evolution and Thunderbird installed for testing) and they do not automatically scroll to the newest message in the folder that I can see.  I suspect we are talking about two different things.

I might be dumb as usual but I did not fully understand the problem.

Is it about clicking on Date in the messages list grid?

In Sylpheed or Thunderbird, I click on the "date received" column to sort by date, with newest messages at the bottom of the list. This works in Pegasus as well using "Sort in reverse order."

When I open Sylpheed or Thunderbird and click on a folder in the folder tree, I get a list of messages, sorted with the newest messages at the bottom of the list, and the initial "viewport" of that scrollable list shows the newest ones (the scroll bar is already at the bottom). I have to scroll up to see older messages (but I most often want to see the most recent ones, so no scrolling is required). (BTW, I actually have Sylpheed set up to automatically select the oldest unread message, if there is one)

When I open Pegasus and click on a folder in the folder tree, I get a list of messages, sorted with the newest messages at the bottom at the bottom of the list, and the initial "viewport" of that scrollable list shows the oldest ones (the scroll bar is at the top). I have to scroll down to see the most recent messages. The visible messages initially are the oldest ones, from years ago, and to see the messages I got yesterday, an additional action (scrolling down) is required. Is there a setting somewhere to automate that extra step... to scroll to the newest messages?

Sorry if I'm being dense. I was expecting this email client to sort like the others I've used. When it didn't, I figured I could change it by checking a checkbox somewhere. I haven't found that checkbox yet [:S]
