Hierarch pm has ",Name_Unavailable for folders that are lost

Will do. I am not sure where these folders have disappeared to. I have not knowingly unmounted any folders. My own mailbox has many more, I have discovered. Fortunately for me I have both mailbox folders backed up from about 3 months ago, on a usb key, so will have those files in there unless they went long before.

How will I determine whether folders have the same internal identifier?

So, I replace the pmm and pmi files into the folders, and remove the related 'name_unavailable lines in the hierarch.pm?

Thanks again.

Ellie

Hello all,

On my husband's mailbox, there have been folders that have gone astray (disappeared). I see on opening an old copy of the hierarch.pm, that the entries that match the numbers on the folders have the words ",Name_Unavailable

For example:

0,0,"G0W6XVBL:5C1C:FOL01DC9","7A937208:  Mail Lists",Name_Unavailable

That relates to a line that read:

0,0,"G0W6XVBL:5C1C:FOL01DC9","7A937208:  Mail Lists","  Digital Workflow"

I tried to replace this line into the hierarch.pm file but it overwrites it.

Another one is:

0,0,"3TF6G75D:6BF2:FOL07BC5","7A937208:  Mail Lists","Incoming Digital Black and White"

Which now reads:

0,0,"3TF6G75D:6BF2:FOL07BC5","7A937208:  Mail Lists\"",Name_Unavailable

How can I get the folders that have this name unavailable to reappear as they should be?

I did try rebuilding the hierarch.pm but restored it when all the folder tree structure had gone.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Ellie

Ellie,

The Name_Unavailable  means that PMail could not find a PMM file with this string in the headers.  Does the PMM file FOL07BC5.PMM exist in his HOME mail directory?  Is so if you open it in Notepad does it have the same string in the first line in the file??  Do the same thing with the FOL01DC9.PMM file.  If the file(s) is(are)  present and the strings match the only thing I can think of is he's done some "Add mailbox to list" with duplicate folders.

I did try rebuilding the hierarch.pm but restored it when all the folder tree structure had gone.

You can try deleting all the lines with Name_Unavailable  when PMail is not running and see what happens when he restarts.

Thanks for the reply, Thomas (I was pretty sure you would have a suggestion on this.)

I found loads of them in my own hierarch, too!

I am just about to go out but when I can think clearly I will check out these are see if the pmm files exist as you suggest. If so, and if I delete the lines with Name_unavailable, will it put the folders back where they were?

If I can find the pmm files on a backup, could I just copy them into the directory?

Thanks again,

Ellie

They will be brought into the root as new folders if they are found.  If they are not found they were probably folders that were mounted and are no longer mounted.

Yes, and make sure yuo also get the associated PMI file.  You do this when PMail is not running so that the hierarch.pm does not get messed up.  This is assuming that there is not another folder with the same internal identifier.

Thanks again,

Ellie
